@dreamwallaby
I would like to follow the evolution in color of your blue cockerel. I am working on blue jubilees myself but with the Wyandotte bantams. Pullet 2 might be just a split for the mottled gen.
Good looking flock! Keep us posted
With a little luck his offspring shows that same groundcolor and featherpattern.
Not that I haven't seen great looking jubilee Orpingtons here, but the marking on the speckled Sussex looks more neat/refined than on the Orpingtons (and Wyandotte bantams ).
Still putting together how to get that...
When it comes to speckled Sussex, I think I only saw them once on an exposition. They aren't common at all her in Belgium. There was one hen I liked (picture underneath) but she wasn't for sale.
Now I have this 5 year old rooster that is looking really good. Judge for yourselves.
I don't...
@bramblefir
Where your cockerel is showing clearly the bleu behind the white tip of the feather, I miss that in two of my project birds. I hope to see some follow-up pictures so I can keep comparing.
This couple shows the right amount of blue in their wings and neck, but that's it...
@bramblefir (and others) I would love to see more pictures from your blue jubilees. I am working on this color but for Wyandotte bantams. What I have noticed is that in some young birds, there is only the white dot without the blue or with only a very little of blue.
I have another...
For one simple reason : I breed Wyandotte bantams and not Orpingtons
That might not have been clear in my previous post.
I joined this thread to learn from the breeding experience the Orpington breeders have, just as I joined the speckled Sussex thread.
It is not my intention to bore you with...
Started working on blue jubilee Wyandotte bantams.
Crossed a jubilee cockerel with splash hens and a blue laced golden hen.
In 2016, the F1 will be put together with a jubilee cockerel.
How were the blue jubilee Orpingtons created?
Anybody with pictures of the F1/F2/F... or valuable tips?
Always...
@mollybuck
Those two look exactly like my crosses concerning their color.
Hopefully you'll get some extra cross chicks this hatch, because with just this pair, a little misfortune can boycott your plans.
I believe your jubilees show more dan enough white for a breeding flock.
Sometimes...
@mollybuck
Both options should be possible.
Putting your blue cockerel (out of jubilee x splash) over jubilee hens or your blue hen (out of jubilee x splash) with a jubilee cockerel will bring you one step closer to those blue jubilees.
Always put the next generation together with a pure...
@mollybuck
Too bad your splash hen didn't make it.
She looked very pretty. Luckily you got some chicks from her.
On these pictures, I can't tell whether they are pullets or cockerels, but since I am no expert at all when it comes to Orpingtons, I will leave that to those who know what they...
@mollybuck
This is the first year I made this cross. Only thoughts and expectations, no experience yet.
So far, the chicks out of jubilee x splash appear to be mainly blue with some red accents in the chest.
I expect more and more red coming through as they mature, but this first year they...
@mollybuck and all others that are interested, I have some new pictures.
2 older hens, left : blue laced gold x jubilee, right : splash x jubilee.
3 chicks out of blue laced gold x jubilee, the chick with the lightest blue is a hen, the black marked chick is a cockerel, still have my...
jubilee x splash gives 100% blue and split for mottled
jubilee x blue gives 50% blue split for mottled and 50% black split for mottled
You'll need to put the blue F1 back to jubilee to get pure blue marked jubilee (12,5% chance on blue marked jubilee).
Other colors you might get are blue and...
@mollybuck
I saved some pictures on my computer that aren't mine but from a Belgian breeder of Asseels.
Hope to see you start the blue jubilee project!
As mentioned earlier, I crossed a jubilee cockerel with a splash hen.
You'll get the same chicks + black colored downs as @SanderB explained. I don't think you'll see lots of red those first weeks.
Here are my jubilee x splash and jubilee x blue laced gold chicks at one week old ...
I'm working on this with my Wyandotte bantams.
Parents
Chicks (also 4 pure red porcelains)
Red porcelain x splash hens
Red porcelain x blue laced golden hen
Interesting discussion about the down coloring.
I breed the jubilee Wyandotte bantam variety and see those same down colors.
Since last year I started to follow the individual differences between the chicks with different down colors.
Eventually I only had 2 roosters with those stripes on the...
I am now working on this color with the Wyandotte bantams.
My first step was a jubilee rooster over a blue laced golden hen. I have 8 chicks so far but will be hatching more soon.
Parents :
Thanks!
Actually I am referring to the pattern in total.
My problems are the following :
-Red leakage in the white 'pearl'
-Too much black
-Too white
-Not enough black (wing and chest)
I do have one older rooster and one young cockerel that I really like when speaking about...
I really like her black and white markings!
Also the red is that kind of 'dark red' which is desired.
I breed Wyandottes in the same color for 2 years now.
That colorpattern on your Orpington is my objective.
My current generations are still to messy colored (too much black/white).
Here you can...
