Mid September Hatch-A-Long with Ethel....

My hen Slate Blue turkey (Ethel) appears to have a nest somewhere. If she does, and if she stays with it (both of which are up in the air) they should hatch around September 10th.

So I decided I need a September Hatch-A-Long.

This is worse than having them in the bator. I can not candle them, I can't count them, I have no idea where they are even.


I wish I knew how many she had so I could start knitting little parka's for the babies, it get pretty chilly at night here in mid September.

On the good side, These are what would be counted by Alaskan as outside birds and not really count. ( I am having such a hard time with Chicken math.)

Anyways let us know what you have hatching and when. Join the fun. And if you like scavenger hunts come and help me find Ethel and her nest.

She came back at just a few minutes before dark last night (about 8:55 pm, but she was gone at 10pm when I checked on her)

Then she came back at noon (for noon treats) I went in to the house for about 10 minutes and she was gone. She missed 5pm treats last night, so maybe she will come for that tonight.

1st chickens, earlier I was eye-ballin' ducks, and your Turkey avatar is looking rather appealing!!! This site is going to get me in so much trouble and I wouldn't trade a minute of it !

Can you put an unobtrusive bell around her neck!? Half joking! That's making me want to drink 2-3 Coronas.

I wish I could put a tracking device on her!!!

The woods is so heavy here and she is so good at hiding, I doubt I will ever find her nest or even know if she has one, until she brings some babies to me.

Her last failed attempt she had the nest in a little grass right in front of one of my sheds, we would have never seen it had I not caught the younger dog with an egg in her mouth......

I think that will be the last egg she tries to take. She never even broke it, Just was holding it, So I am not sure if she was giving it to me or what... Anyways she was told that is a no no..She will remember that.
