Consolidated Kansas

How adorable, Deerfield. I can't imagine watering the grass. It's been so long since I had a nice yard. It was before goats, dogs, and chickens to say the least. If I could ever find the time and afford to build on my garage and all the other things I want to add to this house, I would love to fence in the yard just around the house and have a real lawn again. Probably not going to happen though in this life time. The grass would probably grow if it wasn't under constant siege from the birds and dogs and cats.
I suppose many of you are planning a big 4th of July. Funny how once the kids were grown all these holidays just became another day of normal routines.
It certainly doesn't seem like July already. I really do miss having a garden this year. This is normally about the time I really enjoy picking. Oh well maybe next year it won't be a mud bog for months. At least I have the tomato plants I put in the flower bed. Tiny tomatoes on them and I'm not even sure what kind they are now. It'll be a while before there is any thing to pick.

Must be nice having dogs that won't eat eggs, I was told to let them have a bunch of rotten eggs and that should cure them. Nope, they like them too.

Oh, well, we are going to get a couple of those electronic training collars and try that.

@Danz, as far as we know, and what the breeder said, they are pure GP's. But of course, what else would they say? ;)

So we are getting another puppy, a yorkie, at the end of the month. I want to do this right with the chickens this time. so should I introduce them super early as soon as we get him while the chickens are free-ranging?

Yorkies were bred to catch & kill rats on ships so their prey drive is huge. I couldn't trust my Yorkie out with the chickens if I wanted to, she caught & injured a chick once that escaped the brooder faster than I could even stop it. The chickens will attack small dogs, that I agree with, but they do have the drive to chase chickens as well though.

KsKingBee, I agree with Danz those pups do look part Antolian but that wouldn't be a bad thing because they're good LGDs as well. As long as they do their jobs I wouldn't worry about it. They sound like they're doing pretty well actually. I went through the egg eating thing until I put a livestock panel gate over the run door so the chickens can go through but not the dogs. They don't do it as bad any more anyway, maturity does help with a lot of that. But they still will eat eggs if they find them, I think all dogs & cats will. I do give my cats & dogs eggs if I have extras.

Deerfield that's a cute pic of the ducks playing in the sprinkler! Mine love playing in the puddles where my water spigot is out by the pens. I'm always washing out buckets or something out there & I keep a pan of water there as well for the animals & chickens that the ducks & geese play in. Even though they have a pool to play in even pans of water are fair game to them.

Happy 4th of July everyone! I have no plans for the weekend, I'm kind of like Danz, it's just another day for me.

@KsKingBee I let my dogs eat eggs when they were young and I gave them some that broke or cracked when I was washing them. If I caught one with an egg in their mouth I would say, "What do you have in your mouth" in a scolding voice. They would look down like they were in trouble but go lay somewhere and eat it. I just let them get their fill of eggs and now they don't bother them. It took several dozen per dog to get the message across. Like Trish said if they have some anatolian in them the dogs will be fine. It is just a slightly more aggressive dog, which would be a good thing where you are.
I've been playing catch up today with little things I let go aside. I candled eggs in the incubator. No more than I have in there I discarded quite a few. I've been washing bedding and switching winter to summer comforters etc.
I have some of the birds fed and watered and need to go back out and do a lot more.
It's a pleasant day because I don't feel at all rushed like usual.

Rvroman yes my husband was a fuels specialist and worked the flight line. Now he works as a contracted engineer for Cessna designing and building the military's new Scorpion jet. He has some disability for hearing loss from the flight line and has had a hernia. I am very proud of him and everything he has done for our country and family. I'm sorry to hear about your medical, I'm sure that sucks, and thank you for your service as well. I come from a military family myself so naturally I would marry into the service. :)

I took the separation pretty hard. I had joined fresh out of high school with grand plans of search and rescue and retiring in the service. Fortunately I was able to get my bachelor of science in nursing finished up the semester before my discharge. Now I just have to find a job that meets my physical abilities. I was awarded 60% disability by the VA and it is no joke, I probably can't work in most of the hospitals around here as it is not only very physically demanding, but the 12 hour shifts are generally 14 hours minimum. But I do get the summer to reaquaint myself to being a mom to my 2 amazing boys!

I'm sorry to hear about your disability. It's good your got your BS in Nursing before you left. I'm sure there is something you can do since there are a lot more options these days for nurses.

Hi everyone, hope you all had a great weekend and Independence day.

A few pics I would like to have reviewed.
First two are my Bantams (ok, the wife bantams) Figured I had a Rooster and Hen, but the one I thought was a hen had a nice pink Waffle and comb until the other day and it went red, red in like a matter of days, 15 weeks old. I did notice the Waffles are not identical

The last 3 pictures are updates of ones i posted earlier trying to identify and we had guesses of EE and Welsummer. Not looking like a welsummer now, any input would be great.

Been awhile since i posted anything, but i do love stopping in on the mobile app and reading everyones updates.

Well, time to head out and put my frozen milk jugs behind the fan and cool the coop.

Have a great night everyone.

Andy

What a weekend! We had all the girls from our daughter's boarding school come for lunch and a swim on Saturday and today I had a memorial service to attend east of Ark City. Afterward, my older brother, who attended with me, took me for a nice Sunday drive to the Kaw wildlife preserve. We had a great time just seeing the sights and chatting. That's really different and very wild down there. Very unexpected for Kansas. There's about a mile long stretch of swamp! Who knew? We spotted 7 Indigo Buntings, beautiful little birds that are entirely a brilliant blue color. I've seen only one other in my lifetime and it was in my own yard several years ago. What a treat!

Hope you all had a great weekend!

Deerfield, the Kaw Preserve is absolutely beautiful and fun. I haven't been down to it in years.
