Logic seems to be gone out the window when you've just brought home 8 more with 8 on the way and 5 ducks as soon as they hatch.... Plus 5 eggs...
This is me trying to downsize for the summer, by the way. They're going to be going into a tiny temporary coop, so I wanted to make it easy on myself and only have 18 chickens or so... I got it down to 23 adult birds but then chicks happened.
Guess they'll be in the house a while longer.
Just a brief interruption here...
I realize this thread has the tendency to get off topic, it has done so many times. But we do prefer if you all try and stay on topic? Plenty of places around BYC to chit chat. Lets keep talking about what dumb things others say about our chickens and their eggs please.
Thank you for your cooperation and have a great day!

I have a hard time calling people "dumb" when some are just plain uninformed. People who have never been around livestock or other farm animals have no clue. They are so far removed from their food source, some people think the chicken in the grocery store grows in the little styrofoam trays they come on! (OK, maybe not that bad, but you know what I mean...) "Dumb" happens when they are informed, and refuse to learn. It amazes me how dumb people can be!
I have to laugh it's not only with chickens I keep bees someone ask me once in the summer just how many bees I had anyway well I said I have 10 full hives and 3 nuc (half sized) hives one had started to swarm they said noooooo how many bees I thought for a moment and casually said ohh about a million they freaked out! Then I told them that I had 13 queens putting out about 2500 eggs a day!16 layers, 2 roosters. 3 hens are continually broody in the summer, giving the incubator and brooders a break. I keep a handful of pullets each year for winter eggs and to replace the adults that I loose periodically to predation. I hatch and sell started pullets once they are off heat and ready to move outside. The cockerels are raised up for meat.
