Entry: Sitting outside getting ready to play a family game for Motherā€™s Day holding Elizabeth our red game bantam in my lap... and all of a sudden she lays an egg on me  to say the least this wasnā€™t the first time a chicken had laid an egg on me! She wasnā€™t even in her nesting box or sitting down when we picked her up šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

Entry #1: Our chickens are very weird when it comes to laying. We used to have rickety old wooden laying boxes drilled to the walls of the coop, well then we remodeled and added some nice metal boxes with wire bottoms and a little roof and all that fancy stuff, only a choice few like the new boxes, and the rest lay in one spot right underneath the new boxesšŸ¤·šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļø I just do not understand what the problem is...šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

Entry #2: When we let our chickens out to free range for a few days they hardly ever lay inside the coop. They instead lay right behind all the milk crates and old propane tanks right in the hard to get to spots or just on top of the tool box that always works. In fact we had one sapphire gem that would become a literal Houdini and escape everyday without fail. I patched so many holes that I thought were escape holes that when she would get out I would just be at a loss. Then finally one day a seen her escape and when I finally found her, she was on a nest of I think about 12 eggs, under all the empty feed sacks in our barnšŸ˜‚ she was making sure I wasnā€™t gonna steal her eggs!

Entry #3: We have gotten a lot of rain this year and our chicken coop has flooded twice this year. Anyway I was preparing the coop for the last hurricane that was coming through and as I was gathering the eggs I looked and right out in the middle of the yard in the rain was one egg, all this time Iā€™m thinking why??šŸ˜‚

What a fun post, really enjoying all the funny stories.

Napoleon, our Bantam Quail Dā€™anver Hen has found her one and only favorite spot to lay... in our catā€™s house and our cat Hudson was refusing to use said house (he preferred the old rickety stinky one) until he noticed Napoleon using it everyday. Itā€™s right outside our front door so itā€™s quite convenient to collect the eggs.

So adorable!
Side note, our boys look like they could be brothers!

Our hen Hildegarde dug a burrow under the coop and laid in it for WEEKS before we found out!
She always had to be the rebel.

She ran off squawking when she realized she'd finally been spotted!
The whole hole was full of massive eggs, she just would not stop and in the end we blocked the hole with concrete!
It was so hard to collect the eggs otherwise...

This is her good little sister laying in the eggbox:
