sebright thread

I'm not getting any sebright eggs yet, too young but close :fl
But I do have silkies who just started laying this year and they are still very inconsistent. Size, color, shape varies most days, so.... I'm Sorry, I hope someone else can help more.

Edit to add.... It's a beautiful egg though! :)

Sebright experts, could you take a look at this picture and tell me if this could be a Sebright egg? I was expecting small white eggs, but this morning we found a small tinted mystery egg in the nesting box and were wondering if it could be from one of our Silver or Golden Sebright pullets. They are 23-weeks-old and are starting to show other signs of being ready to lay, so it is definitely a possibility. However, we also have a young silkie pullet who has just started laying, so it could be that she just laid an unusually small and pointy-shaped egg today (25 grams instead of her usual 35 grams). I'm attaching a picture of the mystery egg next to one of the silkie's eggs and a store bought white egg for comparison.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'm sure excited for eggs from my little girls!!

could be anyones. despite my rooster one of my sebrights laid an unfertilized egg that was half the size of her usual egg. i'd post a pic but i long since ate that egg which is how i knew it was unfertilized. so even if you have a rooster a hen can still lay unfertilized eggs, and they might be smaller than average.

one of my sebright mixes from last Spring is sick this morning. my mom suspects she is cold so i have her in front of a space heater in my basement. it seems like she has recovered a little. her eyes are open and she can support her head. she has not stood up yet. she is my smallest. so pray that she recovers. her name is Cloud. this is her.

sebright Japanese bantam mix. she has two suviving brothers and two surviving sisters. her Hatchday(Birthday) is June 23.

update. the heat seems to be working. she seems to be recovering. she can stand up now. she's going to stay in the basement for a few days. see if i can't get a little extra weight put on her before i put her back outside. being the runt means you are at the back of the food line so she had a hard time getting a decent Winter weight put on. she is going to be spoiled rotten for a few days while she recovers. it really is a miracle. she was very close to death. could not move. even got to a point where she was no longer supporting her head. for those that don't believe in miracles, my little Cloud is a living miracle, and she has opened my eyes. she went from being on death's door to looking at me in a matter of a couple of hours. she has not eaten or drank anything yet but she is well on the way recover. i have seen her stand and she even gave me scolding when i disturbed her rest giving her water. So the moral of this story. never give up on a chicken who looks like she'll be dead in a couple of hours. try whatever you can to keep her comfortable and don't give up hope until she stops moving. this probably won't always be the case. but i think i am very fortunate to have not lost Cloud today.

Question - I am getting rid of one of my 3 male GSs, but I can't decide which one. Temperaments are all about the same, one is maybe a little friendlier to me but seems like the instigator in picking fights with the others. But nothing to really base on by behavior.

My question is just going on looks, should I choose the largest or the smallest two to keep? Pick the best combs? Pick the best looking tail and hackles feathers?
And on hackle feathers, I have a couple females that are a bit darker around the neck and head, and a couple that are lighter. They are only about 5 months old, so I can't really tell how that will factor in later.

Any tips or comments appreciated!

I'll stay tune to your question. I said I was going to get some 2 males and 1 female and was going to have to choose one.
