During the Inaugural Turkey Hatchathon, we were a small but mighty group of newbies and old-timers.

Last year during the 2nd Annual, we were a spry mix with dry humor, fabulous numbers, and obnoxious straight-jackets.

This year many of us have our own turkeys starting to lay, and we're seeing our first eggs depending on our region.

It's still early, but in order to have plenty of time to arrange for eggs, get brooders in order and start sewing,

It's time for the Third Annual Cinco de Mayo Hatchathon!

For those considering growing turkeys for Thanksgiving, set day is the perfect time to set to have a grown tender bird for the occasion.

Even if you aren't considering turkeys, you'll be quite welcome to join us in this event to chat along as we count down. Newbies are always welcome and there are very knowledgeable folks on here who can help you learn about incubating. Please look at the help links we post along the way, as they can offer a bunch of answers!

I call this Hatch-Along a Hatchathon because it's a whole WEEK longer to hatch turkeys (and geese, ducks and peas) so the WAITING is greatly increased...anxiety and anticipation grow exponentially at the end!!!

Whatever you care to hatch, join us as we start planning for the event.

Search for some eggs to set, coax a hen to brood, borrow or buy an incubator.

We'll set Turkey, Goose, Duck, and Pea eggs on April 7th at noon, your time zone.

Chicken eggs will be set April 14th at noon, your time zone.

I thought I'd start us off with some shots of my boys, Rhett and Percy and one of my hens, Ruby

I lost Rhett this fall to a coyote, mid-day, and I need a new BR tom!

I am absolutely in! I have two toms and and a hen from last years hatch. No eggs of yet! They were supposed to be burbon red....but there not. Not sure what they are. I will have to post a pic. If I don't have eggs I will buy some. Maybe we should try a turkey swap this year!

Ps...what happened to the incubators anonymous thread? I definitely need an intervention or a straight jacket. No one tell DH but come mid February I'm gonna have about a hundred chicks in the house.

Oh, crud!? I wonder what you got?

I don't have eggs yet, but I'm hoping to- I did last year, for certain. Tons. Swapping is good.

I dunno about the incubators anon! I'll have to go look. I have NOTHING in my Sportsman, but about 40 in the Rcom. I have 40 14 week olds in one brooder house, 15 8 week olds in another, 20 4 week olds, 10 2 week olds, and now another set of day-olds...I need that thread again!!

I am definitely in for this and it is the third year of participation for me in this. I have allot of BR toms and hens so I am expecting tons of Eggs. ChooksChick If you need some BR eggs I am sure we could work out an egg swap..... I do not have eggs yet but will. PM me if interested in a swap I do not need turkey eggs in return for the BR eggs. I will get pics of my birds and post them soon.

Maybe we can get enough people together to set up swaps. Good way to get new breeds in our existing flocks and diversify bloodlines.

I am looking to find turkey eggs again this year, and my goose is laying so I hope to set a few of those too. Well, and of course some chickens. ;)
