Alice's Amazing Moult ( Molt )

Very good documentation of a chicken's hard molt. In fact one of the hardest molts i have seen ever! Many photos documenting every development from the very beginning to the end. Excellent!
Your article gave me such relief and encouragement. I have a bantam frizzle hen. She has lost so many of her feathers, was concerned that she could survive such an ordeal. She is tiny and very fragile, and stays mostly on her floor nest. She can not fly up to roost as she normally had done. She does come out to eat occasionally. Have been leaving out more mealy worms for added protein and electrolytes in her water. Thank you for sharing your photos and ongoing updates. They look very similar to what she is going through.

I'm glad it helped you. I hope her moult isn't quite as bad as Alice's. A bad moult is always worrisome.
How is she going now?
Thank you so much for sharing pictures.. I’m a first time chicken mama and I’ve been noticing some molting with one of my girls.. it’s nice to know what to expect!
This is a great article that will many people
Wow, you did an excellent job of laying Alice's moult out for everyone to see the changes a chicken can go through. I really enjoyed reading and seeing what Alice went through. It will greatly benefit other chicken lovers

Thank you Grammy.
I found it informative to lay it all out in writing now that it's over. I'm glad to think it will be helpful to others.
This article gives a detailed timeline of a hard moult. It's excellent for new chicken keepers who are observing a hen's moult for the first time because, when taken together, the photos and text provide such a rich story. I was so relieved when I got to the photos of Alice fully feathered again. Did she ever drop that one rogue tail feather?

Haha, yes it's gone by 13th of April (about 10 days in) if you look carefully. But she grew a new one just to torment me!
Really excellent article. Moulting step by step with pictures. Very informative for anyone who has concerns over a moulting hen and having a time line is a great idea.
Love the pictures. She's lovely.

Very clear pictures. Definitely is preparing me for the worst if my hens get a hard moult. Thank you for sharing.
