This is an excellent article, thanks for sharing your experience with symptoms and treatment! I always wondered if fowl could get West Nile from mosquitoes.
I like the simplicity and reuse of materials. Nothing fancy, but all the basics are covered. This is great idea for those of us without too many predator issues, as you pointed out.
I really like this idea, and what a space saver! I keep water in the coop because we’re in the desert and this would work perfectly tucked into a corner.
I love that you used recycled materials and made it work. We don’t usually have a plan either, winging it can give us great results as you’ve clearly demonstrated.
What a beautiful space you’ve built for your flock. I like that you’ve given a realistic time frame for building the coop and run and that you’ve mentioned the possible issues as well as the modifications you made to fit your situation. Well done!
This is a great article! You're right, not everyone can build a coop for whatever reason. I like the suggested improvements and that you've mentioned maintenance is necessary. Lovely setups too! Thanks for sharing.
I'll be watching my current flock a bit more closely with some of this in mind. Thank you for sharing Shad. You always have such interesting observations!
I came upon this article a couple of years ago and kept it on my watch list in case it was ever needed. This is actually one of the best articles I've read on BYC.
It's an incredible source of information with a thorough explanation of symptoms and the disease itself. I like the question and answer format as well. All of my immediate questions were answered. Very well researched, thank you for the help.
I've learned a lot from this, it's very thorough and will be a great reference. Thank you for compiling all of this information in a well thought out article for us.
Thank you for sharing your observations and thoughts with us. I've seen my own roo escorting the girls back to the herd after they call. I found it sweet and romantic I honestly thought it was for protection and not about keeping other roosters away though. I never thought about it from that perspective.
I love that you experimented to prove your theory too. Great article Shad!
Hey IM. It would be lovely if it was romance but I think the truth is somewhat more basic ;)
They do do romance though imo but that's another article. Thanks for reading the article.
Thanks for this article and your insight. I really like that you experimented with different things and shared your experience and observations. I've been looking for a reason to ditch the nest boxes and I'm more convinced it's the right thing to do.
Thank you for reading the article. The type of nestbox for sitting hens I describe in the article isn't practical for many people. However, the way the hens and rosters behave when making a nest is common to all chickens I think, so anythig that can be done to avoid the hard bases we have come to accept as normal must be a good thing for the hen.
Great photos. I like that you photo shopped to make things more clear in the beginning but showed what might actually be seen too. Thanks, this will help with future hatches.
