A good read for someone like myself who is thinking of adding a couple of turkeys. The article would be greatly enhanced by adding a couple of links to more in- depth information on needs of feed, housing and type of turkey.

Nice overview of winter predators.
A predator apron is typically more than 6 inches away from the coop wall; 12-18 inches seems to be the standard recommendation.

Very good article with practical advice.
I have a brooder/ separation space under my poop boards. I use small pine chips as bedding but can swap for softer shaving if needed. I see you have NO bedding in the garage set up except in the nest. Does it matter for chick safety?

There are a few confusing statements but overall informative. It would help to add photos of normal and abnormal feces, and provide a reference for further reading on specific diseases mentioned, particularly the rare ones.

Well written. We all want the best for our flocks. Your experience will hopefully teach others that sometimes we ought to let nature take its course. But, humans are emotional being who are too often burdened by self-blame when things don’t work out to our ideal vision. The question of ‘did I cause this’ is the first one that would come to mind in anyone, so we talk ourselves into accepting complete responsibility for circumstances beyond our control.
I am glad you shared your experience. Your words “there was a reason…” I will remember these words clearly when I am faced with the urge to assist in a slow hatch.

Informative. Good tip regarding straight run broilers.
Bookmark worthy. well referenced.
Article is very well presented and informative. I love that the author included recording examples throughout the piece. A good reminder that quiet observation has the potential to teach us much.

article is from 2013 and hasn’t been updated. It’s a cute and fun coop. Detail in coop build is lacking.

good pictorial to substitute for written description. The article could be improved by mentioning coop and run dimensions and a few more pics of nest boxes, roosts. Your English was really good for not speaking the language. 😊

good info
As article writing goes, correct the spelling errors and cite vetted references rather than anecdotal observations. You can improve your personal experience by contrasting with a group of chicks raised on free choice starter feed plus free range with their mother and document weekly results (weight, feather growth (control for breed here) health problems. etc
As a recommendation for feeding new chicks or adults, the advice is poor and not recommended as it will lead to unhealthy birds with numerous (hidden until its too late) health problems, malnutrition, poor eggs and reproductive disasters. BE WARNED

As an article goes there is no detail provided on the build. As an idea for a practical approach to allowing chickens access to grass I give the tractor 4 stars.
As a note though, the size is too small for 6 birds.

Well written but year of publication regarding estimated cost must be taken into consideration.
