Great ideas. Keep biosecurity in mind if offering a Christmas coop tour by providing a biosecurity station with boot covers and hand sanitizer for guests. Don’t forget to have a trash receptical so you’re not chasing covers in the neighborhood.
Very educational and well referenced, Perris. Kudos!
In my region (northern mid-west US) I have wild rose (rosa rugosa) growing along the sandy shore in front of my cabin. I took a few stems with strong roots this spring to propagate a hedge. Perhaps the species is not ideal for chickens, however I’m hoping to keep rabbits from invading more prized plantings.
thanks NorthwoodsChick; I'm glad you enjoyed it. Rose hedges are a thing round gardens here too, so it has worked for some. Rabbits are a challenge though - as Bugs Bunny showed with a grin! Good luck with it!
Amazing high-end coop for such a challenging terrain!
The article write up is very informative and highly detailed-Are you sure you’re not a professional builder?
Question- how do you find the roof panels holding up now that it’s been over a year?
Should probably be taken off the list for members to rate. After 14 years it’s pretty clear the article will not be updated. As for the coop? We will never know.
The article provides fast facts in a well organized manner for the few breeds presented. I appreciate the style of the article as a quick guide to popular breeds. I may suggest adding even more popular breeds as a series of updates to the original article. Maybe branch out into some of the designer breeds trending in popularity. Well done.
Nice article on pure bantam breeds ID. Pictures are nice.
Adding more detail on the difference between bantam and standard of the sane breeds, other than size, would make this a 5 star article.
Very informative. I didn’t know that ovarian tumors may be associated with older hens that lay double yokers. I recently had a hen lay a 101 g egg that I was sure would be a double but just a single (very large) yoke.
