Very well written. Different strains of CX grow at different rates and have different mortality rates.

I didn’t know that. Good to know. We would consider raising them again if we could be sure they were healthy. Mine came from a reputable hatchery so I guess it was the luck of the draw and I was not lucky.

Very good article. The best tasting chicken is grass fed. Know that in an 8x8 shelter, they have to move daily and they'll leave a barren desert behind

Very nicely done. I'm wrestling with the rating as some treats can cause problems. You should probably add a couple of paragraphs of what to avoid, such as barley and oats or brassicas. Too much of either can cause health problems for the birds. Also, a Lot of folks feed all flock rather than layer with oyster shell on the side, which prevents males from getting too much calcium. The article would be better if it explored these things.

I enjoyed your article and my nutritionist would as well. Even though many nutritionists (including mine) recommend it, it is still very controversial subject. I applaud you for jumping into it, but to make your article better I would include references and web links. I've chosen not to use ACV given the research I've read... Maybe you can convince me I'm wrong. My nutritionist would love you for that.

This is a wonderful article and a great subject, but we need to know how you did it. Pictures of how you did it, drawings, etc would make this a 5 star article and one sorely needed. Please update and let me know when you have and I'll re-rate this one. I'm excited to see what you'll add.

Wonderful article. But the earlobe section is incorrect. Barred Hollands lay white eggs and have red earlobes.

Thank you @rjohns39. I mentioned that this isn't always foolproof, since some chickens do not follow this standard.

Good job! I agree with you that hardware cloth is the best choice; however, you might want to talk about how to attach it and situations that might require something heavier like 2x4 or cattle panels. I unfortunately have a history of being outsmarted by predators. I have a few chicken tractors. After covering them with HW cloth, the coons jumped up and down on the lids until they pulled the staples out. I now use 2x4 wire attached with pipe hanging tape (led/aluminum) attached with screws covered with hardware cloth attached with screws and fender washers.

Very well documented. I could definitely replicate this. I do have to agree with the others and suggest you add a dig proof apron around the base and cover at least the lower half of the run with 1/2" hardware cloth.

Though it would have been nice to see your plans, I think you did a nice job explaining it and with the annotated pictures I'm pretty certain I could build it. Nicely done.
