What is Pasty Butt?
Pasty butt or chick pasting up is a common reason for a sick baby chick, most often caused by stress. This is a condition where droppings stick to a chick's vent area, preventing excretion of waste. It can also because by chicks eating pine shavings.

What are the causes?
The cause of this issue is due to poorly digestible ingredients. Ingredients that are poorly digested cause the digesta in the intestine to get thicker or more viscous, which makes it stickier.

How do I get rid of it?
Go to a warm room and put a towel under warm water, then gently rub the area until soft, pull at the poop, make sure not to pull the skin. Be careful because the chicken may get cold, to prevent it put towels in the brooder the first couple of days. It may take a long time, don't get frustrated, it is normal. Add a bit of Olive oil to the area.

This is really important topic so good call for starting the article. I think it needs more detail even though it's good that you have an actual picture of the issue. Even google has alot more to say about causes and mitigations so add more detail and pics to improve it as it's a great start. Also, be careful at suggesting to pull on the poo, add cautions around this so that it is not confused with umbilical cord.

Pretty much exactly what to do. I mostly see it on Feed store chicks or chicks introduced to adventurous foods too early. It’s not hard to cure

Thanks. Only two of my new chicks have pasty butt. Both are Australorp and very small compared to my Easter Eggers and ISA Browns… 7-9 days old…

I did it by bathtub. When I finished the poor little girl was shaking. I snuggled her until she was dry enough to put back in the box.
A wet towel is better.... :hit

I haven't had issues with pasty butt since switching out the heat lamp for a home made MHP and verifying temp via thermometer. I think heat stress was the major cause. Not once has a broody reared chick gone pasty either.
