What is Pasty Butt?
Pasty butt or chick pasting up is a common reason for a sick baby chick, most often caused by stress. This is a condition where droppings stick to a chick's vent area, preventing excretion of waste. It can also because by chicks eating pine shavings.
What are the causes?
The cause of this issue is due to poorly digestible ingredients. Ingredients that are poorly digested cause the digesta in the intestine to get thicker or more viscous, which makes it stickier.
How do I get rid of it?
Go to a warm room and put a towel under warm water, then gently rub the area until soft, pull at the poop, make sure not to pull the skin. Be careful because the chicken may get cold, to prevent it put towels in the brooder the first couple of days. It may take a long time, don't get frustrated, it is normal. Add a bit of Olive oil to the area.
