Girls won’t lay in the nest boxes??? Here’s how to help them

So I assume if you are visiting this article you may be wanting to stop your girls from laying eggs all through your yard or just laying them in the coop floor, right?

Okay so here is the first question I have for you are your girls free ranging and laying their eggs all around your yard? If so here is how to stop that.

So first you will want to make sure that you have enough nesting boxes (even though they all use the same one) I have 25 hens and I have 12 nesting boxes, now you don’t need that many but I like to have more than I really need ( I think the rule is 2 nesting boxes per 6 hens)

Once you have determined that you have the right amount of nesting boxes now you will lock them up for a week, sometimes a week works but sometimes you will have to lock them up for two weeks. If they dont seem to get the hint place some fake eggs, Easter eggs or balls in the nesting boxes. This will make the hens think that others are laying in the nesting boxes so they will want to as well.

So you have made sure you have the right amount of nesting boxes and you have placed your fake eggs in the nesting boxes and now you just need to lock your girls up. Now usually after the 1-2 week time period they should lay in the coop all the time I would advise also clocking them up every other day or so or letting them out later in the day at about 1:00 pm since they usually lay most of their eggs in the morning, that way they just so they don’t forget.

DON‘T FREE RANGE YOUR GIRLS? HERE IS HOW TO MAKE THEM LAY IN THE NESTING BOXES.

Okay so you don’t free range your girls but they just won’t lay in the nesting boxes even though they are near them 24/7
Don’t worry this should help them lay in them

So it is rally similar to what I said above you just place a few fake eggs, Easter eggs or golf balls in the nesting boxes and make sure that the girls have some privacy. In most cases the chickens will lay eggs in a corner because they want privacy while they lay their egg. So if you don’t thing the nesting boxes are “private” enough just add some cute curtains to some of the nesting boxes. After awhile they should start to lay in the nesting boxes (You can always put real eggs that you find on the ground that day in the nesting boxes)

Now if your girls are pooping in them that means that they are sleeping in them but that is a whole different article!
I hope y’all enjoyed reading this and I hope I helped some of y’all out!
