Understanding Your Rooster.

Loved the read! I have 2 Roos. 1 Tom is Oliver Egger 18 months older then the other Caillou Copper Maran who was hatched from Purchased eggs slipped under a broody. (At the time I had 20 hens and wanted dark chocolate eggs to go with my rainbow collection) It has been interesting watching the 2 as they share a coop and run as well as free range acre. Everything described in cockerel behavior of building his tribe is what my Caillou did. Tom will still chase Caillou across the yard and and Caillou will still stand on the side while Tom eats the treats tossed out to everyone even after 4 years but at night they each sleep with their own girls next to them.

I really enjoyed this article. I learned some new things about my rooster. He is always flapping his wings at me so that's great. Most of the time he's wanting to attack me. I tolerate it because I love him and he was my best friend. Thank you for the information.
I learned a lot! Thank you!
Great article. Roosters are so much a part of chicken life. When you understand what their job is and let them do it they are such amazing creatures. Like anything else, respect for who they are and what they do is so important. This was the perfect time for me to read this. Roo is just about 5 months old, just started crowing and making his advances on the girls. This will help me to let him know that (if he can win them over) they are his and hopefully let him know that we are not a threat or danger and have only their best interests in mind. The wing flapping is good to know. A lot of new folks would think that this is aggressive behavior. Nice to know that they find you attractive. Thanks again
Best rooster behavior article.

What a great read!
Just what this new cockerel mom needed. Very useful information. Have had to pin him a few times now, and he loves the grooming. Even washed some sticky wattles today after having his melon treat.
Very interesting and enjoyable reading. Recommend it.

I think Cockerels/Roos are just so fascinating! I’m new to chicken-keeping and have a lot to learn. I deeply appreciate you sharing the years of experience you’ve been able to gather in such a well-written way that is clearly organized and easy for a new chicken owner like me to follow along and understand.
I very much doubt I will ever be in the position too have a rooster but found this article absolutely fascinating.

Thanks you for sharing your amazing insight :)
Thank you so much for sharing your insight and experiences with your flock! It was very illuminating on some of my rooster’s behavior, and I enjoyed reading it so very much. :)
Very insightful. I am a new chicken keeper and thirst for knowledge in how to keep my flock healthy and happy. I appreciate what I have learned here and definitely gained a better understanding of my cockerels and the behaviors they exhibit. I believe I will be referring back to this article many times as they grow and show new behaviors.
What a wonderful article, very descriptive and informative! I much appreciate the insights and feel much happier supporting the young rooster I am looking after while he develops into a kind, and caring dude!

This was better than a novel !!! Thank you.
Very informational! Thank you!
Thank you! I have a couple of older boys, we aren’t friends yet. Very interested in learning to groom my chickens. I’ve been mainly hands off with them from the beginning. Other than sitting in with them quietly observing. What a lot of in-depth information!
