Why You Should Stop Feeding Layer Feed NOW

From my experience this makes some valid points even if there are some unsupported claims. I worry a lot about feeding my cockerel the same food as the females due to calcium levels and also when I have had a chicken which just doesn’t lay or has stopped laying as it’s moulting or broody I worry about too much calcium.
I have looked after young and adult chickens ( not mine) with gout which I had deduced could be caused by them eating too much calcium. I currently have the care of a young rooster who has very swollen feet and limbs and by photograph has been diagnosed as possibly gout. Although the advice was to feed layers pellets ( in addition to other medications) I have moved him into growers pellets as I was worried. The protein is the same (16%) but the calcium is less.
I did have him on mixed chicken grain which he loved but the vet advised a balanced layers pellet food.
He takes 10% unpasteurised apple cider vinegar dilution for his water for two weeks. He has a quarter of a 500mg paracetamol once per day in the morning and some low dose Volterol applied to his feet at night to help him sleep.
He came from a group of females fed layers pellets and was hatched with them.
I would like to know what this means:
‘What can you feed instead?
I feed a 20% unmedicated grower feed to my entire flock. It's a one-size fits all feed, because it is suitable for growing chicks, too.’

The title is STOP FEEDING LAYERS PELLETS NOW, so what is the alternative? Does this mean 80% layers pellets and 20% growers pellets?
I find it ambiguous. I would like to know though.

Not a credible article
One of the last lines says to feed 18 to 22 % protein and then in the same breath says to not feed a lot of protein
Calcium thing is sketchy at best in its advice, as someone else said a link goes to feeding yogurt which is full of calcium.
The article has a lot of doublespeak in it

I wanted to read more on calcium being toxic and calcium overdose when I clicked the link it linked back to a thread on this site about feed hens yogurt for supplementation. i am going to be left wondering if they used actual peer review studies and collected data or thing people throw around in a thread . I hope people reading this will throw a grain of salt in and do some deeper research.

Very educational
I've been feeding layer feed to my laying hens for a long time. My birds have done well and lay huge eggs. Not to say there may not be some merit to the article but in about 15 years of raising laying hens, layer pellets have produced healthy birds and huge eggs. Going to look into this a bit more though.

spreading false information. bigger chickens doesn’t necessarily mean bigger eggs. i’ve contacted multiple avian vets who all say it is perfectly safe to feed roosters layer pellets

Do you not feed layer feed in addition to regular feed? It's just common sense that a bird can't survive on a calcium supplemented feed, just do a 75/25 ratio of regular to layer
I also have ducks and geese so this works out well for me thanks!
