Bantam Polish Folks..............Got Lavender?

Quote:
Chances are pretty remote, unless the gene is already established in the breed, IMO. But anything is possible, I guess!

I thought of something earlier tho: we all know that "lavender" is another name for "self blue". And I'm of the understanding that the term "self" means "solid, no other color or pattern", correct?

If so, when I was checking out your website earlier, Aubrey, you had some blue Polish with blue crests (as opposed to white crested blue) - but they appeared to be the "andalusian" type blue, correct? Just to get technical and confuse matters, would these not be referred to as "self blue"? (Except the "self" would be referring to andalusian type blue, not lavender?) Or do you just call them "blue crested blue"?

That's what I was getting at in a round about way with them still having white crest, They shouldnt being a self breeding color, If I'm thinking right.
Yes those are andalusian blues on my site, just referred to commonly as blue polish, as like any blue, they can produce the other colors in blue breeding to. Then I also have some wc blues on there some where I think
There are self black, self white, self buff etc, and yes all are solid color, so I guess they could be classed as self andalusian blues. Think that temr for them has been left off to prevent confussion with lavender self blues though...

Thanks Aubrey!!! Are white crests recessive or dominant tho? Reason I ask is that I have a hen here that is a cross between a WC khaki cuckoo Polish hen and a blue partridge silkie rooster - and she doesn't have a white crest. She had a sibling that didn't have a white crest either (but he's no longer living). So I'm thinking the WC thing has to come from BOTH parents?

I would think the wc is dominate from my experience. Could be some thing to do with the outcross there.
On my blues you mentioned, I always bred them to a wc blue male and everytime got 100% wc blue offspring

To clarify, white is the absence of color. Therefore, lavender has no effect on white, since there is no color to dilute. Lavender dilutes black and red. Any white would remain white. The pics are not clear enough to tell what color the birds are. I've seen folks confuse pale blue, blue mottled and even splash with lavender. A breeding test would confirm what they are.

Ummmmmmmm......

Where the heck did the auction go? I had bid on the birds, they had several days to go on their auction, and when I logged in this morning the auction was GONE.

Answer??

Thanks!

Katie
