The Suedenator Is Aging...Suede & His Girls (pics)

It about killed me when Dusty ripped her comb half off. It was so pretty and upright and now, it just flops over her left eye like that. Poor DH tried his best to superglue it back, but it just was too heavy to stay. Sigh. The things these birds do to themselves, geez.

I always love hearing stories about good roosters. There are so many negative ones that when you hear one about a rooster like Suede, it restores your faith that there are good ones out there.
He's a beauty.

Yup, no bad roosters allowed here. Just don't have it in me to have to watch my back when I'm in the pens and out and about on the property. With Suede, never a worry. He's a complete angel, even when we've had to do a bit of bumblefoot surgery or trim his nails and blunt his spurs, he's been calm and sweet sitting in my lap.

His sire came from Sandhill Preservation Center and his mom was from some breeder in Florida, if I recall correctly, but not sure about the mom. Julie (Bama Chicken) told me back when she sent me the eggs years ago. Meg also came from Julie in the same egg shipment. The blue girls came from another breeder somewhere on the west coast. I've enjoyed my BBS Orps, but Suede broke the mold for me, so when he has passed on to that Great Roost in the Sky, I'll no longer have these.
