Don't know if this is the right place to ask this but cause there's a pic of silkies does anyone know the silkie was first breed (like what was breed to form this breed)
@336White Phoenix
I'm not sure... and I don't think the Chinese kept track of their breedings? The silkied feathering and blue earlobes Wete probably mutations but I'm not sure
@336White Phoenix the Silkie was not developed out of other breeds. It was first a land-race of silkied birds from China, then refined. There is no such thing as a "pure" Silkie though, it was crossed with many breeds to develop new colors. The silkie feathering is of course a mutation, and the fibromelanism, I can't be certain. There were other parts of the world that have it. I will have to study that.

So basically it's just a pile a breeds crossed and mixed until we got what we have today and I understand that u can get pure breed silkies but I thought a proper silkie is supposed to have black skin and 4 toes are the main give away to good quality?? Maybe I'm wrong
@336White Phoenix Silkied birds were first found in China.
I know they had black skin and I believe five toes but I think other breeds went into it to create other colors. Self blue is definitely not an original Silkie color. They need completely fluffy feathers, five toes, black skin, a full crest, a poufy tail, feather legs, a compact size, a walnut comb, and turquoise earlobes to determine quality.
I should say there a pure Silkies, pure to the standard, just that other breeds went into it.
@AMERAUCANAS4REAL ,
I believe they crossed bantam cochins with them in order to get all the colors we have today. I read it somewhere.. just not sure where.
