The feed store was selling straight run red sex links (Isa Browns) and I bought a few. Because they were straight run, they wouldn't let me buy 4 red ones. We compromised and I ended up with 2 red pullets and 2 chicks that were darker than the males and lighter than the females. I figured my...
My buff orpington rooster, Buffy with his feline flock, Henry and Dodge. These 3 were best of friends until Buffy reached sexual maturity. Then, things got awkward. They all stayed friends but they aren't as close now. Henry and Dodge still watch over my flock.
I have kept mine inside. They are not especially happy about it. However, one guinea opted not to go inside the night it snowed. Needless to say, it wasn't hard to get him in the next morning!
Well, I only had 2 hatch of the 5 eggs that made it to lockdown. At least it was one from each of the hens who's eggs I put in! 2 pipped but did not hatch. 1 never pipped.
Here is the EE/ BO chick that hatched. It looks like it might have momma's puffy cheeks.
Still only the 1 chick. One is very busy working to get out and another was unzipping but I think it didn't make it. No progress since I came home last night and I don't see a little beak- just what looks like part of a foot sticking out. I'm really hoping for at least one more to keep the first...
This is my first hatch, so I'm just hatching some barnyard mixes from my chickens. Two eggs (including the one that hatched) are from a little game mix and the other 3 eggs are from my easter eggers. My rooster is a buff orp.
Day 21 of my very first hatch began last night. There were no pips when I went to bed but I woke up to a chick in my incubator! I have 4 more eggs in there, so I'm hoping there will be at least one friend that hatches!
Here she is! I had trouble finding a good photo of her. My rooster can be a little rough on her.
Class: Hen/ Pullet (8 months old)
Color: White and brown
Notes: I actually have a few of her eggs in the incubator, due to hatch any time now! She is the only one of my girls that's laying right now.
I just got mine and haven't used it yet. But, my understanding is that the chicks will just naturally spend less time under it as they get older and need less heat- just like they would do with a momma hen.
Thank you! She was just a hatchery chick but she's beautiful! My other EE isn't quite as pretty.. Mostly because she's white and I let them free range. Her beard usually looks a little dirty.
Wow! You'll have some variety in your chicks for sure! I only have one rooster, a buff orpington. I know 2 of the eggs are from my small mixed breed hen (who is apparently some sort of game mix) and the other 3 came from one or more of my easter eggers. I think they are all probably from my...
