Strange day today. While working at the hospital, my hubby was asked to help catch the chicken that was running around. The parking lot. Miles from any homes. He took the poor thing home and put her in quarentine. She laid a very thin egg, drank lots of water and food. What do ya'll think...
I think so too...but we got him at 5 days old and there was another chick that looked like him but that was was an obvious cockrail compared to this one. But now 3 months later this one looks like a cockrail
Hi guys,
When I first set my 2 new chicks into the chicken pen, they went into the coop to sleep. That was about 3 weeks ago. Last week I noticed that they are now sleeping up on top of the door of the coop. (Door is just 2ft by 2 ft)They are together. There are 3 grown hens inside the coop...
A school teacher friend of mine just gave me these 3 chicks. They will be 2 weeks old on Tuesday. Her medically fragile kids got to watch them hatch. The eggs were given to her by the Ag dept. Anyone know what they are?
I have a hen, she is a year and half old. She came to us in early October and stopped laying for 7 weeks. She layed for a week - 10 days every other day and has now stopped again. She spends a lot of time in the hay at the bottom of the coop, in the poop field. She has green grass available...
On this cold, windy day I got my first egg. It's small and broken on one end but it's exciting! I think it came from the hen we got 6 weeks ago that was already laying when we got her. I just put a larger lip on the box to keep them from dumping out the hay. Now what to do about them pecking...
Before I give him away or possibly eat him, are we sure this is a Rooster? I swore he clucked the other day. He is now 7 months old and has neither crowed or produced an egg.[/IMG]
I have a couple small vent holes, probably 4" diameter. Not much to let the light in. If I make some windows on the coop, wouldn't I be letting more cold in? How do I combat that?
Thanks ChickenCanoe!
I did set up a light about 10 days ago. I put it in the outside area facing up and reflecting off the tin roof. Yesterday I moved it closer to the roost door so it would shine inside a bit more.
My Hubby thinks we need one inside but I say the sun has never shown...
Hi guys,
We arn't doing too good at the backyard chicken thing. We went through several roosters and one massacre by our own dog and now have 5 lovely hens...ok 4 lovely hen and one maybe rooster.
2 of the hens came to us from a friend, they are just a little over a year and already laying. We...
