No heat, just plenty of food and water. And cover. My "chicken house" is a convterted kennel, I have tarps up on the west side, but didn't always, they seem to do fine, it is covered, but open on 2 sides, one being a not air tight tarp covering. I use ceramic eggs, I drew faces on them so we could tell them apart from the real eggs. They stay in the nests pretty well. I used to have alot of snake issues when I lived in Missouri, but not since I have moved here to TN, (knock on wood, LOL) Most of my hens seem to be past the molt, one...- alaina

Really? DE not effective if wet? Some of the recommendations say to add it to water/liquid and drink, I would think this does not change the basic composition of DE, the sharp edges that are supposed to be the effective part...? An animal/human would get no effect then at all?- alaina
