So here are our chickens!! Well, we are only getting 4 of them, but they are in there somewhere! Can't wait to get them! They are all so cute!
My husband has officially started building our chicken coop/run!
The coop will be our exisiting shed and the run will be attached to the...
I go out every day and spend about 30 minutes in the coop with my girls just watching them. They are very relaxing! I have 2 children under the age of 5....I need something relaxing!!
I've only had my chickens for 1 month and so far I have tried to give them: watermelon, corn on the cob, apples, lettuce, even blackberries...they don't touch any of it. I pull some grass from my yard, and they are all over it... Weirdo chickens So, today I let them free range in my yard...
Well, it took them almost a month, but tonight they finally went into their hen house on their own!! Yeah!!! Every night they have been very happy to settle in on their outside roosting pole, and I've had to go and put them in their hen house, but I finally thought maybe if I blocked this...
We use about 3" of sand. It is so easy!! I just go out every day (takes less than 5 min) with my kitty litter scooper and pick up any poo. There is no smell because the sand absorbs the odor. My chickens love to take dust baths in it.

Oh My Gosh!
I love your coop! Especially the cut out diamonds for ventilation I assume. I wish I had funds to make mine like yours but gotta start small till we're ready to upgrade hopefully in the spring.
Oh yeah and the paint colors are so wonderfully soothing...
Finally finished with it!!! Well...almost..we still have to make their nesting boxes...but since they won't be laying until after the new year we thought we could wait a few more weeks until those are finished.
We have 3 hens so far (3 more on the way). They seem very happy. I tried to...
Thanks!! Their food and water is actually under their coop and they are able to leave their coop and be in the run anytime they wish. I think they just like to sleep in like me They were born in June, so they are young. Also, I am using the sand method...and I have to say I love it!!!! I...
Hello All,
I am new to chickens and I have had my chickens now for 4 days. The first evening when I went and checked on them (around 9pm) one had gone into the coop (this is a totally enclosed chicken run with coop.)
and so I simply put the other two in the coop. Now, when I have checked on...
We won't get them until early September when they are about 9 or so weeks old, but here they are. We are also only getting 4 of them...but I am so stinking excited!!! Now we just have to get that coop built!!!
Thanks for looking!
If I use sand inside the coop and outside in the covered run area, can I still use the poo in my compost? Do I just use some sort of litter picker-upper to pick it up and put it in my compost? If I get any sand in the compost will that ruin it??
Okay so I went ahead and ordered 2 more chickens! We will have 4 now. 2 Wyandotte and 2 Ameraucana. So excited!! They will be about 9 weeks old when we get them.
So, after all the reading I have done...I am thinking that we will do a deep litter method, or sand........can't decide which...
Thanks! I will talk to him tonight. I would really love to start with 4 (they will be about 9 weeks old when we get them).
Otherwise maybe i'll just order them..... :-)
Thanks all!!
I am in Tacoma WA. Mostly rain, but the run will be covered. I think I will use sand. I really want to get 4 chickens, but my husband really only wants to start with 2. And since we are brand new to this, I think he's gonna have to win this time :-). We'll see....
