A couple of my girls (and my roo) are getting pecked by the other girls. I don't know who is doing it because they never do it in front of me. I thought maybe it was mites at first so I freaked, scrubbed/sprayed etc. and I am pretty certain that that isn't it. My poor EE is so bad she is...
I don't think it's mites. Last night I went into the coop with a flashlight and checked all of them and couldn't find any mites. I just don't get why they are picking on the roo!! I was watching them before the went up to the roost and the girls were picking his tail! So I guess I have to put...
So I think my chickens have mites. I can't get a good picture because they won't sit still long enough! My EE Roo has a bald patch on his cheek and his neck, which I thought was pecking at first..but then I noticed one of my SLW pullets has a patch on her back right in front of her tail...
I'm thinking the same thing. We live in the woods in south central CT and I'm afriad that something will happen to my babies. Only problem is, there are 11 of them and now they are 18 weeks old. If I had to, I could put them in the downstairs bathroom, but that would be one heck of a mess to...
I know this probably seems like a dumb question, but..here goes: My chickens are now 17 weeks old! YAY! Got all 11 from my local feed store when they were day old chicks, and every one of them is still alive. But when should I start seeing eggs? I hear different things all the time, so I don't...
I'm pretty sure the EE is a boy. But after seeing some pics on Silver Laced Wyandotte's I am beginning to wonder...They are 9 weeks old now.
SLW #1 s/he is darker than the other one
SLW #2 more white feathers on chest/wings/tail
And the EE. I think it's a he.
here he...
That is definately the chick picture. I only had 11 chicks, and I know who is who. When I first posted the baby pics, people said it looked like a speckled sussex, but I don't see any speckles...
This is the only chick I have that I can't identify. I got her 8 weeks ago, and she came from the Rhode Island Red bin at my local feed store's chick day. She doesn't look like the 2 other RIR's that I have...
This was her as a couple weeks old:
I though she was an EE, but no green...
So I came home to look at the work my dh did on the coop (it's finally DONE!!) and noticed a lot of mushrooms growing on the ground in the run. I have never noticed these there before...so I was trying to dig them all up, but I would assume they would hurt my 6 week old chicks if they ate them...
So yesterday I moved all 11 6 week old chicks into the coop. They were having a great time until it started to get dark and cold. It was about 55 degrees and I knew the temp would drop more in the night. I could put the heat lamp in there I guess, but when is a good time to put them out there...
Our coop has 2 big windows with hardware cloth over them and the wind was blowing through! I couldn't leave them out there! They are much happier inside. Hopefully I can send them out tomorrow...
So my 11 6 week old chicks went to the coop today. They loved it, until the temperature started to drop. It was 58 degrees...went out to check on them and they were all huddled in a corner. So being the crazy chicken mother that I am, I boxed them up and brought them back inside...it's supposed...
So my dh has been busy as a bee getting everything ready for my 6 week old chicks big move this saturday. I have been researching everything, and I told him to get hardware cloth for the outside run, instead he bought 2x3 galvanized garden fencing!!!! Then he said he was going to put chicken...
