    Hello from Rochester, NY

I bought 16 (1) day old chicks from the Poultry Hachery in Seneca falls 2 years ago. Buff Orpingtons and Barred Rocks. 100% survival. Healthy birds came to my post office in a box with warmer. They are still laying well at two years

How do I decide who to keep Roo-wise and who goes from my small flock of 3month old BO's ?

Hi all, I am new to back yard birds and have a similar situation, I have 16 birds (6) barred rock pullets, (7) buff Orpington pullets, and (3) buff Orpington Roos. All are 11 weeks old I figured on keeping only one of the Roos. One is clearly the boss, he is vocal and is always watching what is...

    My birds won't come outside??

Thank you all. I just went out to put the babies up for the night. As fast as I could get them in the coop they were back out on the ramp trying to get out. I think I have the coming out part covered. Now just need them to get the hang of going in at dark

    My birds won't come outside??

Hi, I'm new to chickens, and I recently built a coop mad fully enclosed run for my 16 chicks. They are 7 weeks old and I moved them out to the coop on Thursday. I left the door to the run closed for two days to let them get used to the new surroundings then on Saturday morning I opened the door...

    Building a coop first time

Well the coop is done, what a lot of fun I had building it, picked up some great ideas looking at others. Now I just need to build a run. I'm thinking 10 X20 ft plus enclosing the base of the coop with hardware cloth so that they can have some shade that would be 10X28. I have 16 chicks that are...

    Building a coop first time

Finally some nice weather so I started building a coop for my new girls. I have no idea if I'm doing it right, but there is a wealth of info on this site. What do you think? Main coop will be 8X8. With 8 nest boxes and an 8 ft by 12 ft enclosed run . Oh yeah 16 pullets .

    Hello from Orange County NY.

Hey guys. My chicks came on Thursday, all are doing well. I guess they're about a week old now. When do I need to start worrying about them flying out of the brooder. I built a plywood box that is 3 ft by 4 ft by 30 inches high. I have a screened top for it. They seem to be growing so fast!!!
