My rooster has started mating with a hen. Her comb is becoming increasingly bloody. I went out there today and there is a gash in it from where he was holding on. Is this normal?

Back in June I desperately wanted 2 Buff Orpingtons along with my 4 other pullets. Now, both of them awake in the morning....crowing. Ugh! I need to find them homes. Does anyone know a rescue or something in Indiana that would accept them???
That is what I thought. This one is much bigger than the other BO. This one is also a little more aggressive. Almost like it is trying to keep the others in line. Anyone have a Buff Orpington rooster? Are they docile and quiet for the most part?
My neighbors brought home a young wild goose that is not afraid of humans. They found it at a lake and it followed them. They aren't properly taking care of it, not to mention they don't have a permit to keep one. So, I have it in my yard right now. I am trying to figure out where to take...

Once it get cooler at night you should probably have the heat lamp for the young ones. It can be tricky to mix chics, but the good news is that the buffs will grow bigger than the reds. I would say give it about a week and try introducing them again when you have some time to...
I purchased 3 female New Hampshire Red chicks on Saturday and 2 female Buff Orpingtons today. I have the 3 reds in a large dog cage in the garage. I dont have the heat lamp on but the temp is 90 degrees. Should I have the heat lamp on the young ones? Also, when can I mix them together? I...
I am fixing my brooder. I bought 3 New Hampshire Reds today and put them in a plastic bin. I am covering the bin with hardware cloth and I was going to set the heat lamp on top. Can a heat lamp set directly on hardware cloth?
I am a stay at home momma to a 3 year old son and 2 year old daughter. My husband and I have been married for 7 years. We have 2 dogs and 1 cat. We recently started a large garden and thought...why not have our own fresh eggs? Which brings me here. We purchased a used outdoor cedar dog...
How many should I get? We are transforming a medium to large cedar dog house into a chicken coop and building a run off that. It should look pretty nice. I've never owned chickens and I am trying to do as much research as I can. There is SO MUCH INFO!!!
I am interested in purchasing 3 egg laying hens. I have 2 children, ages 3 & 2. So, they must be easy going and good with children. I also have neighbors nearby, so I would prefer them to be quiet. I am thinking about purchasing a Buff Orpington, Australorp, and a Barred Plymouth Rock. What...
