    Hi from Johannesburg

Welcome to BYC! I am also a South African up in Johannesburg and simply love chickens. I have two fully grown hens, 5 little chicks that hatched here and are now 12 weeks old. I am hoping for at least three hens out of them. Then on in October I bought two Brahma hens who are now 23 weeks...

New Coop being Built at MoonShadows Farm

I also had a grown rooster last ear which I had to give away. I did not plan to have any again, but, before I gave him away, my hen laid 5 eggs, 3 hatched and two were roosters! I am so fond of them and love their crowing early in the morning, just wish my neighbours would too I am busy...

It sure is pretty! I have 10 hens and 2 roosters, Sadly the roosters have to go because even though I have a large yard, the neighbours don't like to be woken up at 4am!

Yes I do, there are 7 young hens in the coop directly next to them and i expect them to start laying very soon. My original hen laid five eggs of which 3 hatched and the two are roosters and the one is a hen and they are now 8 months old. She and the mother are laying. I read on google that...
