Thanks guys! She has been stubborn in the past, I think she's only on her second week for this round. If it works out I will try to remember to post some photos!
I can't help with the breeds, but the picture below may help you figure out if they are pullets or cockerels. Just look at each chicken's saddle feathers!
It doesn't look like a cockerel to me! Cockerels have long, pointy saddle feathers, and pullets have rounded, petal-shaped saddle feathers. That's what maks me think this one looks more like a pullet, but the saddle isn't completely clear in the photo.

Thanks for the advice! I'm concerned that if I wait too long, the hen will not adopt the chicks, and the chicks will not bond to the hen. These chicks will come from a hatchery.
If you were to use RoundUp, I would fence the area off for quite a while, even up to a month. I would suggest looking for a more pet-safe option, if one exists.
Hello all!
I was planning to try and get my stubborn broody to adopt some chicks I have coming when a thought came to mind.
Is this a biosecurity issue?
Is introducing my healthy hen to hatchery chicks a biosecurity problem? Is it likely the chicks will be carriers of anything at such a young...
I live in a similar climate, and that coop looks lovely! I appreciate the windows in the hen house, especially. The extra ventilation would be essential for the hot summers, and it looks warm enough for a California winter. I don't know much about automatic run doors, but I find it enjoyable to...
She is walking normally, if a little slower. She laid an egg a couple days ago (I think). She may have laid a fairy egg recently. I'm having trouble keeping track between chickens because we have more than one light-brown egg layer. Her tail is a little droopy, but not completely down when she's...
1) What type of bird, age and weight (does the chicken seem or feel lighter or thinner than the others.)
Ginny is a Speckled Sussex. I believe she is 3 years old (not completely positive on that). I don't know her weight, but she doesn't seem to be lighter than normal.
2) What is the behavior...
