I came home to find a chunk of my approx 2 mos old chicken missing. I had her in a kennel with two other hatches so the older hens would not peck at them. What can I do to help her live?
I have similar pecking issues and the purple goo that I bought is called Rooster Booster Pick-No-More Cover Up Lotion. I don't have roosters... this works with hens too.
In addition to the lotion, we've been giving the hens more free range time and and occasional extra snacks for pecking (i.e...
I posted this in another section and found that yes that's the umbilical cord area. Never had one hatch like that, but this is only my second time incubating. After I cleared it out of the hatching debris, decreased the humidity, and put her back in, she seems to be doing much better. She's...
This was not an assisted hatch. I've never seen a belly button like that before. Wow, good to know! This is my second time incubating and wasn't home when this one came out. It seems to be picking up a little energy, but still not strong like the others. Will continue keeping it separated. I am...
Thanks Justin for giving me some hope for this little one. It seems so weak compared to the others and none of the others have a bulge like that. Will just keep a close watch on it and see what happens.
I've got a chick that hatched today that appears to have an infection on its lower abdomen area from some kind of cut. Not sure if another chick pecked at it or if it was like that in the shell. Please take a look at my pic and let me know if you have seen somthing like that before. Can this...
I have a hatchling less than 24 hours old who appears to have a cut near her (or his) lower tummy area. Can this chick be saved? I have placed a small napkin over the cut area and swaddled the chick in a wash cloth. It didn't appear to be doing well leaving it in the incubator and I was...
I have two polish bantams that need to go. For those that were unable to have chickens for dinner, what's the easiest method for finding a home for roosters. We are new to backyard chickens and apparently I don't have enough posts to post in the buy/sell area here. I sent a message to our 4-H...
My silkie's wing feathers look a bit unusual. Is this normal for silkies? I know how they should look as adult, but have seen a baby one until we hatched ours.
Hopefully, this picture will post as it it my first time uploading one to this forum.
Thanks!
Well, the one chick continues to pip and the crack is getting larger. I can see a good section of the chick as well as its entire beak as it tries to break from its shell. It seems like its taking an extraordinarily long time. Still no movement from any of the other eggs.
