molting or depressed duck--with a happy ending

Can you give her some eggs to sit on? That helped my girl. She wouldn't accept a new friend but loved her baby (turned out to be a drake & since I bought the egg he was not related to her). The next year they had two daughters and are very happy together. Good luck!

sick chicks & dead turkeys Please Help!

I am asking this for a little girl who lost all four of her turkey's about a week ago. Now her chicks are sick. Their feathers are all puffed out. Their eyes are swollen, and once this happens they are at the end. I have heard turkeys can get sick from chickens but could the turkey's...

    Pekin Duck Club!

I hope it is okay to ask this here. Ducky is not acting right. She keeps open and closing her mouth, she reaches her neck out (looks like she is getting sick). She keeps repeating this movement. She quit laying eggs just as this started. I am afraid she has something stuck in her...

    Pekin Duck Club!

Quote: My first sign is when they are old enough to quack, they have very different voices. The next is after the male gets his curl. I have never tried to look when they were born, sorry.

    Pekin Duck Club!

Picture of my duck family. The two grown ducks are Pekins, the two young Pekins are 6 weeks old and their natural ducklings. There is also six ducklings from eggs I got from craigslist. (They were to be Khaki's and Welsh but they are mutt ducks but I think I got four females.) The Peking...

spots on comb--- should I worry????

Mycoplasma gallisepticum, sorry for the late reply as I've not been online for awhile. I think it can be caught from wild birds. I also recently read that it is common in broilers.

    Pekin Duck Club!

What cute ducks! I hatched some babies from a lady that told me they would be Khaki's and Welsh, since that is what I wanted . Once hatched not one duckling looks to be Khaki and only one looks to be Welsh. I called her back as what I really got was mutt ducks since she keeps her mixed...

    Pekin Duck Club!

Thanks. I go down and sit by the kennel and talk to them until they settle down but I have not tried holding them that way. I still think their mother is a bad influence. I love her anyway. We raised a little KC in the house (my son did at least) & it was a sweet as can be. Once...

At what age can the ducklings move into their coop?

I like your idea of an easy to drain tank for their water. I have a small pond with shallow edges so they can easily get in and out. To clean it is near to impossible. I have lots of plants & try to balance the eco-system with the plants using the nutrients. I also run a small water...

    Pekin Duck Club!

I have the same issue. All I do is feed them, clean their cage, give them fresh water - - - what is so scary? Their mother was always this way so I guess she is teaching the babies to fear people. Good luck.

    Pekin Duck Club!

Hello Pekin Club! Just hatched two Pekin ducklings late January, they are already nearly as big as their parents. The female, Ducky, was my sons pet & we have had her a few years. We lost her sister last year and my poor girl wouldn't leave her nest. I gave her some eggs from another...

At what age can the ducklings move into their coop?

I have five week old ducklings and they are a great deal of work! This summer I lost a duck and gave my lone duck a half-dozen eggs to sit on, only one hatched. I ended up with a Pekin drake. This winter the female, also a Pekin, went broody. She sat on two eggs so I got half a dozen...

    The Welsummer Thread!!!!

That is a very sad story. I never thought of my chickens eating stings! I will need to take a look around, I think the tarp over their shelter is fraying but I never would have dreamt that they would try and eat it. Very sorry for your loss
