Black Creek Farms
Hello!!
I just ordered my first chicks and they will be here April 13th--I'm really excited :) I ordered Australorps, Wyandottes, Plymouth Rocks, and Easter Eggers. I'll post some pictures as soon as they get here.
Here are some of my "unfeathered" pets:

I was cleaning out the brooder today and grabbed the first thing I saw that would work for a temporary holding pen for my little bittys-- a bucket. They are so precious and are growing up so fast!
I posted this picture a few weeks ago, and the unanimous consesnus was that my little EE is a pullet:
I still have my suspicions that 'Meredith' may be a rooster, so I've taken some new pictures. The reason I'm thinking maybe rooster is the tail feathers are sticking straight up and look...
This is Sami- my sweetest chick (and probably favorite)! But I have absolutely no clue what she is--any thoughts? I'm thinking she is somewhere around 5 weeks old. Her legs are orangish yellow. I'm pretty sure Sami is a pullet, but wanted some expert opinions to support that conclusion too!

Ok, I just went and looked at the chicks legs. I have 3 that are supposed to be marans. Two of the three have definite pink legs with blackish overtones. The third chicks legs look more yellowish than pink to me, although it also has a lot of dark overtones. So I'm hoping that seals the deal...
This may be a dumb question, but how can I ever really know? The cuckoo marans look like barred rocks to me. If the legs are yellow it could be poor quality. When they lay eggs they are supposed to be dark brown, but could be anywhere on the brown spectrum right? Am I doomed to be forever in...
She did have cuckoo marans--not splash. For some reason I always get those two confused. I like the idea of them being cuckoo marans better than BR. Don't get me wrong, I love my BR's, but I had my heart set on a maran!
I got this chick a little over a week ago, so it is supposed to be between 2-3 weeks old now. I was told it is a black cooper maran, but I am noticing the feathers are black and white. Is that normal for the black ones to have white on their feathers at this age, or is this chick something...
