Black Creek Farms Hello!! I just ordered my first chicks and they will be here April 13th--I'm really excited :) I ordered Australorps, Wyandottes, Plymouth Rocks, and Easter Eggers. I'll post some pictures as soon as they get here. Here are some of my "unfeathered" pets: THE Cats Paco...

    Bucket of Chicken

I was cleaning out the brooder today and grabbed the first thing I saw that would work for a temporary holding pen for my little bittys-- a bucket. They are so precious and are growing up so fast!

    Help--Roo or Hen?

I posted this picture a few weeks ago, and the unanimous consesnus was that my little EE is a pullet: I still have my suspicions that 'Meredith' may be a rooster, so I've taken some new pictures. The reason I'm thinking maybe rooster is the tail feathers are sticking straight up and look...

    What breed?

I got her from someone at a trades day event as a chick. So she could be absolutely anything!

    What breed?

This is Sami- my sweetest chick (and probably favorite)! But I have absolutely no clue what she is--any thoughts? I'm thinking she is somewhere around 5 weeks old. Her legs are orangish yellow. I'm pretty sure Sami is a pullet, but wanted some expert opinions to support that conclusion too!

    Roo or Hen?!? *UPDATED PICS*

Here (s)he is today. I still think rooster--the tail feathers look different than all my other pullets. But I am a newbie, so what do you think? Still pullet? Or you think roo too?

    Black Cooper Maran??

Ok, I just went and looked at the chicks legs. I have 3 that are supposed to be marans. Two of the three have definite pink legs with blackish overtones. The third chicks legs look more yellowish than pink to me, although it also has a lot of dark overtones. So I'm hoping that seals the deal...

    Black Cooper Maran??

This may be a dumb question, but how can I ever really know? The cuckoo marans look like barred rocks to me. If the legs are yellow it could be poor quality. When they lay eggs they are supposed to be dark brown, but could be anywhere on the brown spectrum right? Am I doomed to be forever in...

    Black Cooper Maran??

I'm not sure what color the legs are--I'll have to go look at them tomorrow.

    Black Cooper Maran??

She did have cuckoo marans--not splash. For some reason I always get those two confused. I like the idea of them being cuckoo marans better than BR. Don't get me wrong, I love my BR's, but I had my heart set on a maran!

    Black Cooper Maran??

O no!! I hope not!!! I paid too much for them to be barred rocks!!! And I already have barred rocks...grr!

    Black Cooper Maran??

I got this chick a little over a week ago, so it is supposed to be between 2-3 weeks old now. I was told it is a black cooper maran, but I am noticing the feathers are black and white. Is that normal for the black ones to have white on their feathers at this age, or is this chick something...

    What breed?

Thanks y'all! The legs are orangey yellow- no hints of green. I will post some updated pics in a week or two. They are growing up so fast!

    What breed?

I know it may be a little early to tell, but what breed is this? He/she is supposedly 1 week-ish old. Thanks!!

HELP--Pullet's Eye Swollen Shut & Nasal Discharge :/ (PIC)

Thank you so much! One more question: are you suggesting I treat all the pullets in the pen with the antibiotic? They will all get the cider water, but wasn't sure about the antibiotic.

    Roo or Hen?!? *UPDATED PICS*

I bought this easter egger (or at least thats what I was told "she" is) last weekend. Over the past week, "she" has started to look more roo-ish to me. This is my first batch of chickens, so I'm not really sure how to tell hen vs. roo, but my friend said based on the shape of the head and the...

HELP--Pullet's Eye Swollen Shut & Nasal Discharge :/ (PIC)

I got a new dark brahma pullet yesterday (plus 5 others that are fine)--she is supposed to be about 3 months old. Yesterday her eye looked perfectly normal. This morning when I went outside to check on her, I noticed her eye was swollen shut and she seemed a little tired. She also has nasal...
