    Omphalitis/Yolk Sac Infection

I just had two die within hours after hatching. They eggs were from my own flock and were gathered on the day before I set them. I had disinfected everything, the eggs were clean and I've had several successful, healthy hatches prior to this one. I noticed when I candled the eggs prior to...

Day 17 of incubation. Large fowl and bantam cochin eggs...just a question

Hi! First time incubating and I was wondering about air cell size. I have three bantam eggs and three large fowl eggs in a Brinsea Mini Advance incubator. Temp 99.5, humidity kept at the manufacturer's suggestion by filling one side of the water chamber until lockdown and then I fill both...

    INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Hey guys! I just found this forum! I live in Evansville and I have two young buff orpington roosters to rehome. They are pretty boys, but I already have a rooster and these came from a bin marked "PULLETS" at Rural King. (UGH!) Anyone interested? I would trade for a lavender or chocolate...

Thank you! I will! He/she is the bossiest chick in the brooder! What a riot!

I think this is a rooster. Thoughts on breed and sex?

    Pullet or Roo? Possible breed?

I was thinking the same that it was possibly a barred rock, but I'm very new at this....otherwise I would have made sure I was getting chicks from the pullet bins! LOL. He's the bossiest little chick. He pretty much runs the brooder. If it's not a rooster, it's going to be the bossiest hen...

    Pullet or Roo? Possible breed?

Hi! I think this little guy is a roo. I'd love to hear what you think and what breed you think he might be. I got my first batch of chicks from a farm supply store (won't do it again, by the way). Here's "Vinnie"!

    what breed could they be?

They're cuties, whatever they are! :)

    what breed could they be?

I was at our TSC today and they had either red pullets or white leg horn....perhaps yours are leghorns? The leghorns were yellow chicks and the "red pullets" were more orangish.

    I am so frustrated.

We're new to this forum and embarking on our first experience as "urban farmers". We live outside the city limits and there are no zoning restrictions where we live with respect to having a flock. We have a perfect coop and we are building a "run" for our birds. We have a flock of six chicks...

Proud owner of six little chicklettes!

We bought six chicks yesterday at our local feed store. Of course, they are the cutest things we've ever seen. They're happily playing in their brooder and they are FUNNY! If one drinks...they all drink...if one eats...they all have a nibble or two...if one finds a fascinating dust speck on...
