Hi! 2 questions here- 1) noticed by 4 day old chick had poopy butt this morning. And cleaned her off by running area under warm water and gentle towel removal… it was red and out a little, is this just from the irritation or could it be a vent prolapse? 2) one of the chicks (the yellow one...

    Giving broody hen chicks

None of my other hens are broody at the moment, my only other one that goes broody is my silkie and she’s been over it for about a month now. Do you find that other broody hens are more prone to peck at the chicks?

    Giving broody hen chicks

Once the mama hen goes back with the babies, have you found that she has a new sense of empowerment lol, like will she possibly stick up for herself reentering the flock w the newbies?

    Giving broody hen chicks

Did the broody hen take to the chicks the first time, but then just didn’t protect them? Or did she not take to them? Will they be upset if you get rid of her “babies” after they’ve done their job raising them a bit?

A) should I try to give her the babies B) should they go in main coop or separate C) if separate, will the other girls pick on her...

How many bantams in 10x10 run?

Thank you! Yes I’ve heard suchhhh varying thoughts on how much room they need. I’ve heard much more space per chicken is needed, and most say bantams need less room, but then someone else said they need more room Bc they are more active.

How many bantams in 10x10 run?

I was thinking about getting a separate coop and run for standards, and letting the standards free range, but keeping the bantams in the 10x10’ run, since I worry about predators (mostly hawks) with their small size. They sleep in their coop- we try to get them out an hour before their sleep-...
