    Incubator

My job is taking me out of town for the next 2 years, and I am selling my (quite successful!) hatchery business. This is a Rite Farm Pro 528 incubator. More specs can be seen on the website: coops n more. This holds 528 chicken eggs, and over 1300 quail eggs. I use it on continuous hatch...

    Breeding coop

We started the process of streamlining our care of the chickens last year. We enjoy breeding, and hatching, but the care of the breeds and keeping them all in separate coops was too time consuming. My husband and I both have full time jobs off the farm. I am a full time Emergency...

Making a "double" silver laced from a single laced

Is there a better choice such as a pure white orp? Not sure if the double laced are a solid black bird with genes for lacing, so I'm not sure how to get from single laced to double.

Making a "double" silver laced from a single laced

I have silver laced orpingtons and was wondering how to breed them to get double silver laced orps? I understand they need to lose the Columbian gene hiding in there. Would breeding a SLO hen to a pure black orp rooster create this other pattern?

It would only matter if I left the incubator in the guest room when I had guests. I had been removing it from the room when guests stay over so I could have access to it. It's never been an issue for me.

If you are not inclined to build, what I use for breeding pens is a 10x10 dog pen, (cost $250), reinforced with hardware cloth all around the inside (4' high, 40'roll, about $60). I secure the harware cloth with wire, not zip ties. Then I lay welded wire across the bottom and top of the pen...

The turner IS loud! Funny, I didn't think so until I tried to sleep in the guestroom where I had the incubator. It woke me up every time it turned. I do think this is the norm for this big of a turner/incubator. I was just surprised because my lititle turners are barely audible.
