Good idea, since they're not laying at night anyway. I was thinking about taking the boxes out of the henhouse and putting them in a covered area of their yard... anyone have any words of advice for or against?
hey all. I am using milk crates with hay in them for my laying boxes and i recently got some babies that are getting close to start laying. I also have 6 hens that have been laying for a couple years. The older girls use the boxes for laying just fine, but some of the new badies are roosting on...

Nope, they each went into individual glass bowls, then the bowl got pumped into a large holding tank. Each bowl had a dump & rinse option...it just didn't get USED.
eww....
dangit... see, i was afraid this would happen. Our Dr advises against it, i knew there would be tons of folks on here that would have real life experience with it and say it's fine... i think my wife is sort of siding with the Dr right now... I really don't want to have to cook the milk before...

i think the same can be said for why someone would want their body to rot in a box underground? I think that is creepier than getting cremated for sure.
i know this is easier said than done, but if you or your spouse are worrying that you might or you KNOW that eventually you will get laid off... go find another job NOW!! Don't sit and wait for the gov't or God to step in to pay your bills. It's a pretty good chance that neither will. Go help...
Crumpet, i'm going through the same thing with some younger hens going in with some oder ones. One got pecked real bad when i put them in the coop together, but they leave each other alone when they are all out free ranging. It's just in a confined space that i have to seperate them. Hopefully...
