    Crescent shaped egg…help!

Thank you. I did read the article and I’m hoping I’m catching it early enough to clear up the infection b/c other prognosis aren’t encouraging. :(

    Crescent shaped egg…help!

Ok. Thank you! Think I should just treat all my RIR (or maybe the entire flock?) to help whoever has the infection? Assuming the vet will use doxycycline. I think I have extra for the others b/c they won’t prescribe for animals they haven’t seen.

    Crescent shaped egg…help!

I went to gather eggs today and noticed the strangest and gross looking egg. Pics below. I haven’t noticed any sick birds. They’ve been laying a little more since the days are getting longer but they’re coming up on 3 so it’s expected they’re slowing down. They’re more pet chickens than egg...

    Can I deworm again

Thank you! I’ll be sure to do that today. Really appreciate your help and advice.

    Can I deworm again

It’s whole grain feed and store bought layer feed. The cucumbers were to hopefully help cool them since it was 88° here in Florida but they didn’t like them so I tossed them.

    Can I deworm again

@Wyorp Rock You were right! I checked on one of my girls while she was nesting & noticed her eye was watering then I saw several ants on her head and neck! I took everything out of the coop/nesting box, vacuumed it and then dusted it with Garden and Poultry Dust. I don’t really know what I’m...

    Can I deworm again

Thank u for your reply @Wyorp Rock. No new birds. I feel like maybe the sour crop issue started b/c I was using a rain barrel with recovered water. I think some squirrels (I suspect) ate layer feed over the opening b/c I found crumbs so I’m assuming the water became contaminated. I also found a...

    Can I deworm again

When it rains, it pours! It's been 3 days past my initial deworming (did a 5 day course of 1ml of fenbendazole on approx. 5 lb girls) and I'm also three days into a 7 day course of coccidiosis treatment. Initially, I dewormed b/c one girl wasn't doing awesome (probable sour crop but vet...

    Can older girls get coccidiosis?

I have a small flock...6 chickens. Of late we've been having some issues. My Buff Orpington had what I assume was a sour crop that I didn't identify in time. She's still alive and roaming but she has lost a tremendous amount of weight and I honestly don't think she'll pull through. I took her...

Drooping comb, ting of purple at top

Almost certain it’s a sour crop & maybe she aspirated before which is causing the profusion issues in her comb. I just leaned her forward and a ton of nasty stinky liquid came out. Taking her to vet to hopefully get some antibiotics now. Hoping that will help her.

Drooping comb, ting of purple at top

She’s has two small watery poops. Sorry TMI. Vent looks clean. Some normal dirty feathers from past movements but overall looks normal from what I can tell. When I went to check I tipped her forward and some fluid did come out of her mouth. It makes me think sour crop but can a chicken have...

Drooping comb, ting of purple at top

I have a two year old Buff Orpington. She's been acting a little strange for a while. I thought maybe she was getting bullied. She hasn't seemed interested in eating mealworm or scratch when I feed our small 6 bird flock. Today she came out with the others and took a social dirt bath. When...

Why wasn't I warned.. not to build a coop, or heck get chickens... Oh well too late now. New build started this weekend.

We live in Florida where heat and humidity are the enemies. I made doors that have removable panels for additional venting during the warmer months but can be closed during storms or cooler months. They also have the option to act like Bahama shutters to allow flow but not totally removed. I...

I want to build a coop, but I've never built anything. Need advice!

I built ours myself. We live 1/2 mile from the ocean so she’s hurricane equipped. My footers run 18” deep and 12” wide at the base in the shape of an “L” to keep out predators and keep her grounded in the event of a hurricane. I installed a Coop Tender which has a solid steel acme threaded screw...
