thanks! I was doubting the first SLW (facing left in the first pic) because of the tail feathers curling.. but they all have pretty long tails now. The feathers also keep looking more white to me. I didn't see pointy neck feathers, but they don't like me getting too close so it's hard to tell...
I got 6 sexed pullet chicks February 23. I have been sure 1 Wyandotte is a rooster, now I'm thinking one of the others is as well? 2 of the barred rocks are also looking a little long in the tail lately. First 2 pics are the same 2 wyandoyttes. Thoughts?
Well, it's been almost 2 weeks since the attack, and the chicken is still alive! I flushed it twice the first day, once the second day with diluted iodine. I gave a little bit of antibiotics in the water for 1-2 days, a sprinkle of electrolytes the next couple days. She never stopped...
A hawk attacked my buff orpington about 4:30 yesterday afternoon. I discovered her being pestered by the dog at 4:40 and noticed blood on the back of her head. When she came out of the bushes, I notice a HUGE open wound on her left breast, and she disappeared for about 1.5 hours while I went...
A raccoon got into our coop and badly injured our last adult chicken two nights ago. I couldn't see any blood except on her foot and a small scratch on her comb. Her left leg, however, is turned and the foot is facing the other leg, practically stepping on her toes with the other foot. She will...
I have looked several times, but I haven't seen anything. I haven't experienced mites before, so I may be missing them. All the other birds don't seem affected.
Hi,
My flock molted this fall, and while they all got bald spots, 2 out of 4 looked good again quickly, 1 still looks a little fuzzy with new feathers, and 1 (a barred rock) is STILL missing feathers 3 months later. It was mostly under her vent, then it became a little bit over her vent...
In case anyone is going through a similar situation, an update:
The chicken laid soft eggs for about a week. I took away her "snacks" (scratch), added a small amount of water to her layers pellets (they dissolve very quickly if you add too much), and she started to gobble them up. We had...
Sadly, I had a bird go this way! We weren't sure what was wrong with her. I discovered her standing, eyes closed, in the run. When I brought her inside, she just got weaker and could no longer stand. She died a few hours later. She was maybe 14 weeks old at that point, though. I'd be...
I have a 6 month old barred rock that started laying last week. She laid one normal egg, and one soft-shelled egg that was broken when we found it. I don't know which came first. Since then, she has only laid soft-shelled eggs every other day, but usually two at a time.
We've been feeding...
