She has head tilt. It's really not bad. It depends on the cause, if its an infection, she needs antibiotics. Self diagnosis' can be less reliable than taking her to the vet, and you may have to go through several different kinds of medication before one of them works, so it may cost more, too...
She has really heavy breathing, (Yes, wheezing.) I'm living with my sister, and she said that it may be because of changing their feed to fermented. She said she thought those were the signs of drunkenness. I thought that was funny. I called a vet who said I should try antibiotics. I'll be...
I'm fermenting feed, but it doesn't look right. I fermented feed for a little while with crumbles, and it looked right, but I switched to pellets and it smelled stronger, like throw up or beer. It also doesn't get that film and the bubbles on top. I've been fermenting the feed with scratch...
I have a hen, she's about 4-4 1/2 months old. She's had labored breathing, when she clucks (or squacks) it sounds like she's got gunk in her throat. I'm really worried. Her crop is completely empty but she won't eat. She won't drink anything, either. I tried putting her in isolation but it only...
I have a hen that is very similar, but she doesn't have a blue comb. she just stands there, looking dazed. she's only four-ish months old. I'm really scared. She's one of my favorites. Sometimes she'll sneeze and it'll sound like there is gunk in her throat. I've looked down her throat and there...
If you don't feed grit (very small gravel or course dirt) and feed more than commercial feeds, ex. Corn oats wheat etc. your burds could get sourcrop, which is a problem in their crop that is VERY difficult to fix. Look it up for more info. You DO need to give grit. Chickens DO NOT HAVE TEETH...
Its actually better to feed BOSS instead of corn for heat. :) Thank you, as well. I've been wanting to feed grains without mixing them myself and I've finally seen that thats what scratch is. Awesome! :D
Thanks, all. I've been trying to find an allflock feed in pellet form but am not having any success. I want to feed all of my chickens the same feed, (with the exception of calcium supplements), so if i have to give layer pellets to my roo I will, but if I can find an allflock feed in pellet...
I and all my chicken raising friends have been doing it for years. Me mostly due to the fact that only layer feed seems to come in pellet form. It will be okay, but do make sure not to give it to chicks, if you have any. Its bad for the kidneys. :)
I'm going o switch to pellets due to the fact that I spread the feed on the ground for my girls, (instead of in a feeder) and its easier for them to see the pellets than the crumbles. Along with that, I've noticed that the crumbles have a lot more dust in them, and they really do sort of crumble...
Mine are free-rangers, and (obviously) have full time access to soil. I'm just trying to prevent sourcrop. It sounds horrid, and one of my friends chickens got it and didn't make it. I'm also not finding a pellet feed that's not a layer. I have Roos and I can't give them the layer feeds, but...
