    Overwintering chickens

    I'm in 6b and designing a hoop coop that will be covered with a tarp in the winter, the front face will be open wire for ventilation. If it gets to chilly from the I'm going to stack hay bales along the front. I'm also using deep litter. I'm pretty confident that the coop will be warm enough!

    I always put out oyster shell free choice, but they just knock it over in a matter of seconds how should I give it to them?

    I want to put some foam pads on the bottom of my wooden nest boxes to keep the eggs from being cracked as usually more than half of them are. I know that they'll probably pick at it, how do i keep them from that? Is there anything I can put over it? Thanks so much in advance!

    Want to add a rooster to my flock - need some advice

    Jumping in here! I'm also adding a rooster the same age as my 20 week old hens very soon, some people say to just throw him in but my instincts tell me to keep him in quarantine for a week or so and slowly integrate him, any suggestions?
