    "Easter Egger" male or female?

Got this one from the feed store, so supposedly it is female, but I'm starting to wonder. Sorry the pic is shadowy, it was the best one I could get.

    EE...male or female?

Was definitely hoping for a pullet, but, based on the way he looks and acts, I am also leaning toward a little roo. He just seems very rooster-ish. Sad because I like him and wanted to keep him. We shall see.

    EE...male or female?

Hello, this one is only 2.5 weeks old, so I'm not looking for definite answers, just inviting folks to take a guess. It's feathering out black and white so far, but all black and white. No brown on the shoulders. Shoulder feathers stick up like little mohawks...I don't know if that is relevant...

What Am I? Mystery from Meyer Hatchery

. Thanks for the insight abt the golden buffs. I took a closer look just now and the bases of the newest feathers are really dark, almost black...she (I hope) is quite a mystery. I emailed Myer but haven't heard back yet. A unique buff Orpington would be cool.

What Am I? Mystery from Meyer Hatchery

Hello, any idea what breed this chick might be? It hatched out of a brown egg shipped from Meyer Hatchery. It was a pure yellow chick except for a brown spot on the head. Clean-legged. It started feathering out buff with gray speckles and now it is getting some brownish feathers on the...

Chick can't stand up...doesn't look like spraddle...any ideas?

Hello, I have a day old chick that cannot stand up and I am having trouble figuring out what, if anything specific, is wrong. Here are the symptoms: 1.) It cannot stand or walk on its own. When I place it upright it falls over on its left side and then flips further onto its back. 2.) It appears...

    Coccidiosis or something else?

Hello, I have 6 (down from 7) week old assorted chicks. I hatched them with my elementary school students (I post with a new issue or two every spring--thank you all for all the help). I am fairly sure they have cocci but I am seeking the opinions of the more experienced. Yesterday I noticed...

How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

Three! Bunny Lebowski (I accidentally cut off her toe when she was a chick, for any Big Lebowski fans) laid her first egg today. Soon all five will be laying I hope!

I feel horrible!!! Was it right? Was it wrong? IS there a right answer?

Oppossums are nocturnal. A possum out in the afternoon is pretty unusual in my experience. I don't think they carry rabies as commonly as some other critters, but being out in the open during the day could indicate it was rabid or otherwise sick. I think you made the right call.

    egg shell colors

Thanks for all the information! I appreciate it so much. Raising and keeping these chickens has been so interesting. I really learn something new everyday. I suppose it doesn't matter what color the shells are, except that I like the detective work of figuring up what they are up to.

    egg shell colors

At least two of my five hens have started laying this week. Yay! Anyway I'm trying to figure out a.) which two are laying, and b.) if it's more than two. I have three austrolorps, a buff orpington, and a barred rock. They are all 19 weeks old. I've been getting two small eggs a day. One is...

    Two Questionable Austrolorps

Thanks for the input and the link. I'm so pleased to hear that folks think they are all hens. I picked these 5 out of a hatch of 16, based on leg size and how fast they were feathering out (thanks to the forum for info on how to do that!) Honestly, 5 was more than I wanted but I figured I would...
