We usually take the eggs after they are laid and put them directly in the fridge, sometimes while they are still warm. Should we wait until they are room temperature? We have noticed that the shells are really tough to crack, is this because we refrigerate too soon or too much oyster shells...
My 2 BO's starting laying a few weeks ago and two days in a row I found an egg that was wet, seemed to have some type of watery substance on it, is this normal?
Thanks guys for all your suggestions! I think I will just let them "free range" during the "winter" (I live in south Florida, it was near 80 today) and in the spring Iwill fence off an area near the coop for them. I knew they would be "scratching" in the yard, did not know they could literally...
I have 2 BO's who free range during the day and they are tearing my flower beds up! They are constantly"scratching" and have dug large holes all over the yard. I love that they are free range but have no idea if its even possible to keep them from tearing up my plants and yard.......any...
Well it looks like it WAS the "chicken song"! We got our first egg today! She never "squatted" and only sang the "chicken song" once! The one thing she did do was moved the hay around in her nest, she created a "hole" about 1 foot in diameter out of the hay. Now the other one needs to start...
