This is Daisy. She’s about 4-5 months old. Does it look like she is having issues with her knees? It just seems like she walks gingerly and with knees bent, and seems like she’s a little knock kneed 🤔 She runs fine, although it does seem that she is careful when running, and when I finally...
Maybe try a different antibiotic? I used Penicillin for a respiratory infection in my hen. Worked great. 7-10 days. Dosage is dependent on his weight. Different antibiotics treat different bugs.
I have two Silkie hens that had respiratory infection. I’ve been giving IM injections of penicillin in the breast muscle. My one hen is very skinny so I had a hard time finding her breast muscle. I have given 3 shots successfully and their symptoms seem to be getting a little bit better. This...
I did it twice. Two days apart, so as not to put her into a state of shock. I haven’t had to do it again so far. It’s been probably a bit over a month. I believe my girl has underlying issues but she’s doing great after that and a round of antibiotics
Here it is. I had my husband help with holding her on a table. Just poke her once and unscrew the syringe to empty it so you aren’t poking her more than once. Like they do when they take blood at the doctors. Maybe you should wrap her in a towel to keep her Calm.
I just went thru a bout of this with my Silkie hen. She doing alright now after I did what I suggested. It will eventually be her undoing but for now she’s fine. Maybe your vet could prescribe the Rx at least? Mine gave me Ampicillin and you need to give her .05 ml for at least 10 days twice a...
Ascites is what it sounds like. Aka water belly. Is usually associated with either an infection or organ failure. You can drain it with a syringe but I’d consider a vet for a blood test first. YouTube shows how to drain it. On her right side and not all at once. Antibiotics will be necessary...
I have made the crumbles (or pellets) into a mash with water myself and they really like it. They think it’s a treat but it’s their same food. The vet is just trying to get them to eat MORE. I think the mash idea will do it. Mine don’t like pellets either. Just wet them down. They’ll eat em.
I have a small run with a metal roof. I keep the feeders in there. I live it except it needs a small gutter to direct the rain out away from the run. I’ll be adding it before next fall for sure
I have a Silkie that hasn’t laid an egg for at least 9 months and I feel like she must have something of this nature. What can I do to help her? I appreciate you’re help.
Oiling legs of chickens kills the scaley leg mites that get under their scales of their legs. Smothers em. Bathing with water is sometimes necessary if they get in a terrible mess. Say if a soft egg is “accidentally” cracked and has gotten on their face and body. It’s also a good time to give a...
