I need facts so that I can prove my chickens are pets

In order for them to be considered pets, you should be treating them as pets. I know this sounds obvious, but I was having trouble here too. One of the big concerns of my neighborhood was whether my chickens would be seen as a negative if they decided to sell. When several of the more...

Adding to a flock of 2 in the suburbs... how many pullets?

I would think golden comets would get along fine with your buffs and be a good choice. Yes I would add two, that seems like just the right number. Remeber you will need to isolate the new ones until you know they are not carrying any pests or disease. And you will have to introduce them slowly...

Any of you live in a subdivision?

I am in an affluent suburban are as well. I have only a few hens, and most of my neighbors are fine with it. However free range eggs are readily available in our market and the extra cost is inconsequential to most of the people that live nearby. Giving free eggs doesn't bribe a soul around my...

Does anyone have their own microscope for fecals?

I see Tala beat me to it and was able to get a link. I remembered that post because I have a lot of animals and it seemed like a realy useful idea, but I never followed through.

Does anyone have their own microscope for fecals?

I found it. The post refers to Fiasco Farms (goats) website. If you go there and look under care/supplies they link to an inexpensive but suitable microscope that was under 100 bucks.

Does anyone have their own microscope for fecals?

I remember reading something on here quite a while ago. Try a search using fecal and microscope and you might be able to find the old post. It had a good recommendation and a link if I remember right.

    Suggstions for deterring an eagle

Cover the run. I have an eagle that sits politely in a tree near my door and talks happily to me as I go to feed in the morning. I think it is probably a rescue rehabbed at a nearby wildlife center and it is actually asking for a chicken breakfast.

PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME I CANT STOP CRYING ~UPDATED may 7th~

I have a nice coop with attached fully enclosed runs. I keep them padlocked shut. The chickens are happy enough, and I figure memorizing the combination will keep my mind young and healthy. Around here it is not just children sadly, but the "me generation" retirees that figure they are entitled...

Friendliest of the bunch! Will it stay that way?

Hard to say. If you keep gently handling them, as you are doing now, they may all grow up to be quite freindly.

    My Mops

I think I have a picture of one of my sons looking a lot like the middle chick (the one with a two-tone mowhawk and black eye). He went through that phase at about 12, and thankfully it was a short one. The child lived (grew to adulthood even), and I was not imprisoned for murdering an extremely...
