    Chickens and Hog Feed ????

I mix all my own feeds, and all have been tested in labs and in the field. Grower or finish hog feed is almost the exact same mix as broiler ration, so much so that when I make too much of one or lack of another I'll mix the two together. Say I'm running low on broiler finish I'll cut their...

    What is this baby?

That's a gonzo, some little peeps, a plastic cow, and I think a flat screen TV. Mistery solved.

for those without buried posts, do you strap/bolt your coop down?

Concrete slab, two courses of blocks frame after that is the way to go. Easy clean up low maintance. would never do a coop or other animal confinement on a wood or dirt floor. Concrete is cheep fast and pretty much permenant. Do it right one time and done.

Coop Shed for Broiler Cornish Cross Chickens

Arson, is it only confine or will they have a run too? Industry standard for corn x is 1 to 1.2 birds per square foot. Now here on the BYC forum people do treat the animals better and more humanily, so what you will hear is 4 sqft per bird. In my broiler coops there is on average 3.3 sqft per...

coop sides- use wire or wood panels? very hot in the summer!

Important to have a combo of natural and man made shelter. I have huge fruit trees in and around the pig/poultry area. Mostly mango, almond, and avacados. The natural shade is the first defence agianst the heat. Heat, is my main problem, followed by rain and preds. We never get below 65*...

Roosting bars to high ? and spacing ?

Nice, I'm going to agree with sonya, inthat you will find it easier to clean and work in the coop if the roosts run lenthwise, so you can walk from the front to the back. Does the coop open on the window side? In the photos it looks like you have hinged openings under the windows. That is a...

Is it okay to leave ducks outside in a pen?

luvme1, hard to understand the question but, ducks are suppost to be outside, long as they have a safe place at night free and safe from preds. outside is where they want to be.

    Free Range vs. the Run

Pellet gun, or that little 410 shot gun seems to get rid of those two legged preds.

    Perch size?

Odd but true, too skinny of a perch may or may not cause stress on the feet, but a narrow perch can/will cause breast deformations. Seen it happen. I guess balancing on a thin stick makes the breast grow in a non normal way. I got every one standing/sleeping on 1x3 (flat up) or big (4 to 5")...

Man attempt at visually/vocally sexing two young ducklings.

blue, If you bought it straight run, and from what you said, and the photo, I'd give you a 50% chancne that that is a male duck.

    What duck should I get?

Go pekins, don't know for a fact but what I've read is they are the best all around duck (laying/meat/mothering/FCR). All I have are muscovies, but that is the only thing available here. Now they are great ducks too, and what Amykin said is true, the moscovies have some sharp claws. One...

Our coop plans, can you provide suggestions?

Shed looks like a good size to run some hens in. Just mod for air flow and cleaning. Going to agree with P-Chick on this one, 6x3 is small and P-Chick says 3-4 hens, I'd say 2-3 hens. unless they have a big run. From your photos looks like you are in cold country, so in the cold they won't...

    Flies

So we butcher every Friday morning, mostly pigs and some chickens and ducks. 2 Fridays back, I was in a huge rush cause things are getting hotter down here and the night before I had not dug a hole for the offal. So I put it in 5 gal buckets with lids and put it on the front porch so the dogs...

    Grocery Store Produce?

19, just get some pigs. Pigs are easier than chickens if you are doing it for meat, not breeding.
