Well...I have tried several different ways to boil eggs to have them peel nicely. I ultimately think it has to do with the age of the egg. Right now I boil my eggs for 10 minutes, then let them sit in the pot until I can get to them again, sometimes all day long. If they are at least a week old...
I give my chickens dried meal worms that you can get at your feed store. They also like black oil sunflower seeds. Sometimes while digging in the garden I find big fat juicy grubs, they love those. Sometimes your grocery store gets rid of fruits and veggies and the chickens always love those...
Is there any wait time for egg consumption after using safeguard? I am seeing long white worms in my chickens droppings. What are these and how can I treat them. I do put apple cider vinegar in their water but I guess its not working. Any Help?
This is great info but my chickens have been losing feathers for about 5 months. One of them is almost bald. We have sprayed and powdered for lice, but it did not stop the feather loss. We are going to change our feed and try some of the suggested supplemental food in the article. Any...
I am having a terrible time with my chickens loosing their feathers around their tails and from the vent up the chest. I can't figure out what is causing it. Their skin gets all red and the other chickens peck at the bare skin. What could be causing this problem. Any ideas?
This past winter we had two chickens come down with a nasty respiratory infection. The vet was called and he delivered an
injectable antibiotic. One chicken recovered after two weeks in isolation, but Lucy, the last of our first batch of hens showed no signs of getting better. She received...
We use the electric net fencing that we purchased from Premier1, and love it. We move it around in different configurations for our chickens. It is easy to install and durable. I would suggest that you order extra posts, the heavy duty ones, and the entry panel is awesome. It has worked very...
Yes it does work. Boiling salted water, 14 minutes, ice bath. Every once in a while I have an egg burst in the water but for the most part they are peeling nicely. Also, the older the egg the better it works.
Thanks for your replies. We have isolated the two hens that are obviously ill. Vet left injectable antibiotic for us to use on them. Will hope for the best with the rest of our flock and just medicate those that look ill.
I trusted the vet to know what was wrong. I just want to know if I can still use my eggs (after a waiting period) after using an antibiotic. Some antibiotic developers tell me that I can never use the eggs again...
When using antibiotics, what is the safest wait time for using the eggs? Some warnings on antibiotic packaging says not to use on chickens providing food. Does that mean that if you use the antibiotic, you can never again eat the eggs?
Not sure if it is bacterial. Vet used oxytetracycline injectable. I tried purchasing the antibiotic myself and the company says that once I use it I can never use the eggs again. Doc says after 14 days they should be fine. I want to make sure our eggs are free of antibiotics.
What is the safest procedure when using an injectable antibiotic on a hen with a respiratory infection? How long do you wait before you can use the eggs?
