Michigan Right to Farm Law, what does it mean?

It took three years of me fighting my township before I finally had victory. They even told me "there is no such thing as the right to farm act" they tried to tell me I could not have ONE SIGLE HEN on 50+ acres!!!

Michigan Right to Farm Law, what does it mean?

I'm not aware of any "new" RTFA changes. I'm a MFB member, as well as a MSFC member. I owned animals against my township ordinance, so I try to stay on top of new changes. I think the article is "old news". I don't believe the GAAMPS changes are legal, and I don't believe they would stand in...

    Lets talk about goats!

I'm in Michigan and have a very friendly pet wether that I would donate to you. He is ND. You would just need to pick him up. He is healthy, and well cared for. He is almost a year old, and his mom is pregnant now. I need to make room for more babies.

Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Thank you all for your well wishes. There is no media coverage about our fight for rezoning, or the criminal charges against the commissioner. They did a pretty good job at covering it all up. When I threatened the township with a lawsuit they agreed to change my zoning as requested. There were...

Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Good morning fellow Michiganders, I have not been on BYC much for quite some time. For those that remember, I was fighting a very corrupt township here in Michigan over our right to own farm animals on over 50 acres. We were zoned residential, and the keeping of farm animals was prohibited in...

Michigan Right to Farm Law, what does it mean?

The last vote has officially passed, and the township attorney stamped it. We are now officially zoned Ag! At first I never thought I would see this day. I'm relieved and cannot wait to aquire more animals (to add to my 40 chickens and 13 goats). Hmmm, maybe some heritage hogs might be nice :-)

Michigan Right to Farm Law, what does it mean?

I would start with your local unit of government as wingless said. I'm not suggesting you must follow their ordinance, but it is nice to know where they stand on the issue. If they support your efforts, that's great. If they do not support your efforts, prepare for a fight, and make sure you...

Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Hawks are my number one predator here in the woods. They are also illegal to shoot as they are a protected species. The best thing to do is offer protection, or prepare for losses. Good luck, I hope the hawks stay away!

Michigan Right to Farm Law, what does it mean?

For those of you familiar with my story... I'm in the process of becoming rezoned from Residential (R-2) to Agricultural (Ag) where the keeping of farm animals is a permitted use!!! So far it has passed the first vote by the planning commission, and the board has a final vote on the 22nd. Its...

    Lets talk about goats!

I have a nice size herd, and only buy in pairs. I made the mistake of buying a single one and my little sweeties became attack goats, and bullied my new one. If left alone, they would have killed her. After a terrible month of transition, I will NEVER EVER buy a single again. They all came from...

    Lets talk about goats!

The top picture has some nice show qualities. How is the udder? I'm not sure if you got them for showing, or if you have kids, but would be a nice 4H project! Congrats on a nice buy! ND, right?

Michigan Right to Farm Law, what does it mean?

Wingless, You are absolutely right. And there is power in numbers! If the city of Detroit can allow chickens, then other townships should follow their lead. And I also believe that the RTFA was perfectly clear in their intent especially when they amended the Act in 2000. I'm ready for someone to...
