    Polish Thread!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

These are the Crested Polish my daughter hatched out this week. They are 4 and 5 days old [long hatch window], aren't baby chicks the CUTEST thing on earth??? The one on the far Right is a Polish/Silkie cross. We are hoping for some frizzles, and I know it's very early to tell, but we...

Chick zipped but then no movement :-[

Thanks for all the replies! This was our first chick to pip and she didn't make it out of the egg. Another chick seemed to have a similar problem so we did help her a bit after 24 hours and no progress, but she is very weak and I'm not sure if she will make it or not [she's the one sitting in...

Chick zipped but then no movement :-[

Today is our hatch day, first time incubating. We are hatching Nine Crested Polish [and one silkie] shipped eggs in a Little Giant still air incubator. We saw movement in all but one on day 18. The first egg to pip was making some great progress zipping this morning, then stopped. No...

    Polish Thread!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After seeing all the cute frizzles on this thread we decided to order eggs and hatch our own. We are on Day seven of incubating our Polish [hopefully frizzle!] chicks--and one odd silkie. We have 12 that are looking good :-P

    Polish Thread!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also, it's been a great help seeing all the pics of different age Polish and their traits to help sex them. If I had read this thread sooner I would have picked up on ours being a roo quite a bit sooner!

    Polish Thread!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Our friend's hen, Maxine. We really like this breed, they are friendly and so fun to watch! We had a WCB named Midnight we loved, but she mysteriously passed away ~6 mos. with no sign of illness :-(. After 2 hatchery orders for sexed hens resulting in 5 roos we've decided to try...

Easter Egger first layed on Saturday, no more eggs since

Just checking to make sure this is normal 'new layer' behavior or something I should be concerned about. We got our 3 hens in February. The other two have been laying for 10 days now...fairly regularly. At least every other day. We found a beautiful green egg in the middle of the run on...

    Egg Cartons

Your carton/labels are cute! I love how the clear shows off your colors.

Baby chick lethargic, have lost three others from this same group.

It's exactly 95 degress (the recommended temp) for their age. The other side is quite a bit cooler (I'm guessing 85, w/out moving my thermometer to check for sure). I think temps are ok. The others seem fine, but so did she yesterday. What seems to happen is chick weakens, then becomes...

Baby chick lethargic, have lost three others from this same group.

Sadly, she didn't make it. Do I need to give the remaining birds and sort of preventative? (We are using medicated feed, they are not vaccinated for Mareks {they are bantams}) I'm hoping it was just shipping stress. Either way, not looking forward to when my daughter wakes and I have to tell...

Baby chick lethargic, have lost three others from this same group.

I made her drink some water and a bit of the wetted food. She was not enthusiastic about either. She had pooped quite a bit (brown, stringy), but I noticed it had a small amount of pinkish mucus. I did not aggressively clean her vent, so I don't think it's from that. She did get up and...

Baby chick lethargic, have lost three others from this same group.

I forgot to add that I did use ACV in their water, although when I moved her to the quarantine I did not add it to her new bowl---just the electrolyte mix. I haven't gotten her to eat more than that first couple of bites. I think I'll re-wet the food and try again. I am having to force...
