So should we put them on higher protein feed, like something you would give to meat birds? Or can someone recommend something extra to add to their diet for the extra protein?
We recently picked up some 18 week old red sex link pullets. The person that gave them to use had to many for his coop and run size. Four of the girls have had their rear feathers plucked off. No signs of lice or mites. Our question is will the feathers regrow? If so how long will it take? We...
thank you galanie. we were pretty sure about the difference between the two. our concern is that people have said many hatcheries will claim to trim the beaks, when in fact they actually debeak them. That was the main reason for the post. we hoped that someone may have gotten some from meyer...
Not at the age we are looking for. All of their older birds come with "trimmed beaks". We always purchase our chicks from them but never any older ones.
We have had a rash of losses over the past few weeks from the local coyotes. Was looking to pick up some started pullets from Meyer to replenish the flock. Does anyone have any experience with the started pullets that Meyer sells? How severe is their beak trimming? Could anyone post a photo or...
I have a buff orphington that has gone broody. How do I break her? I heard that it is not good for her to stay broody. I do not have any roosters, so the eggs are never going to hatch.
Where we live is now quite cold, if eggs sit in the coop for 8 hours and the temp is well below freezing will the eggs freeze? are they safe to thaw and the use? must they be keep in the fridge or are they safe to leave on the counter(we don't normally keep them in the fridge)? Thanks
We have done it both ways. We purchased 11 week old pullets. We kept them in their coop and run for the first week and after that we let them free range and they went back to the coop at dusk without a problem. We then purchased day old chicks- They are now three weeks old. We have not had any...
Is there something wrong with my 19 week old RIR. Her feathers look different than all the others. Sorry for the stupid question - I am just new at this chicken thing
After spending the day reshingling the coop, we noticed the ladies picking up the loose pebbles that fell off the new shingles! Are the pebbles dangerous to them? I'm sure they were using it as a grit, but we are concerned because of the chemicals used. Any thoughts or ideas?
Thanks for the feed back, we understand diatomite is the same as DE, but is it food grade? or an industrial filter product? Any users know the difference between the two products?
We are having a hard time finding "food grade" DE. We have located a dealer who sells diatomite. They claim that is food grade DE. Is that true ? Our online research can not confirm or deny this. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you for that. New to this and I can not tell the difference. Her wattle and comb is alot bigger and more red than the rest and they are all the same age.
